CLASS OF 1978
Salina, KS

Melanie's Story

Graduated from Salina Central High School in 1978 and went to England as a foreign exchange student, where Tony Blair escorted me to meet Margaret Thatcher, then the Speaker of the House of Commons. Both Margaret and Tony later became Prime Ministers of England. Hung out at George Harrison's country estate and meet the Rev. Sun Yung Moon. Crazy times across the pond. Attended the University of Kansas in Lawrence, KS. 1978 - 1985 and 1993-1994 for Liberal Arts Bachelors (5 yr plan!), 2 yrs graduate school in Architecture & Urban Planning for Masters in Urban Planning and lastly for 3rd year of Law School for Juris Doctorate. Worked as City Planner, Asst. Director of Planning & Inspections, City Administrator...Expand for more
, and then Town Administrator in the great State of Massachusetts before turning age 30, freaking out that I had lived so long, quitting my job/profession and attending law school for 3 years (2 in Massachusetts); graduated 1994 and am licensed to practice law in Kansas, Missouri, Federal 8th and 10th Circuit Courts, and United States Supreme Court. Currently practice law in the Kansas City metropolitan area and serve as a substitute Judge in Johnson County (KS state) court. I am still regularly in touch with Mike Higgins (class of '78), Diane Dreese Geisen (class of '78) and Jennifer Hudder (class of '77) from Salina Central High School times. Hope you all are doing well and enjoying the passage of time.
