Melanie's Story
After graduating from Highlands High School I attended 1 year of college at Southwest Texas State Univ. and then another year at Univ. of Houston. I met Briggs (my husband) in 1978 when we both worked together at Exploration Logging in Houston. We were married in June, 1979. Because he worked in the oil industry we traveled quite a bit over the first 9 years of our marriage. During that time we had 2 beautiful daughters, Audra & Stacy. In 1988 Briggs got out of the oil industry and began working in the computer business. We've lived in the Chicago area since 1988 and will be celebrating our 30th anniversary this summer. s many years ago and with the help of doctors, therapy, meds and a great group of family & friends, I no longer "suffer" from the illness. I continue to have periods of depression but for over a year I have not fallen into the depths of depression. For a long time I believed there was no hope, but I am happy to say there is always hope. One should never give up. I think that friends from high school would be surprised to find out I have mental illnesses because I always put a smile on my face and never showed how I was feeling deep inside. I hope that my friends from high school have had a life that has been filled with happiness and love, as my life has been.
