Melanie's Story

Life After high school, I got a degree in Sociology from OU. (Go Sooners!) Then, I spent about 8 months in Los Angeles working as a waitress before I started law school at Baylor in Waco, Texas. I graduated from Baylor Law School in July of 1999. My first year out of law school, I worked at the Texas Supreme Court as a Briefing Attorney in Austin, Texas. Wow --did I LOVE Austin (despite the Longhorns). When my year clerkship was up at the Court, I moved to Dallas in August of 2000 to work in the litigation section at a law firm called Worsham Forsythe Wooldridge, which later became Hunton & Williams. In May 2002, I went to work at Gardere Wynne Sewell, where I continued practicing general civil liti...Expand for more
gation, but also developed a specialty in construction law. In May 2004, I took a job as in-house counsel for TXU (an electric company in Dallas), where I continued practicing general civil litigation. I got married to Louis Okon on August 14, 2004. Louis and his family own a scrap-metal recycling company here in Dallas. We had our first baby, a beautiful girl named Hannah Mae Okon, on June 27, 2005, and for those of you counting, the math actually does add up on that. : ) After my maternity leave, I went back to TXU part-time (which is so wonderful). Louis, Hannah, and I live in Dallas. We have one dog, Chance, who we adopted from the Humane Society. I would love to hear from everyone. Melanie
