Melba's Story

I was a wall flower. I really did not graduate from Brownsville High. We moved away on my Senior year and I graduated in Trona, CA. It was quite an experience but I did like change. I married and 2 years later I worked off and on through having children. I have 2 daughters and 1 son. One daughter was born with multiple birth defects and so this kept me out of the work force. We all survived and then I worked as a medical transcriber for the Radiology Dept. I was quite happy there but was recently forced to retire because of illness. So now I am a writer. I write poetry ...Expand for more
and short stories. I have just published by second bood, and enjoy my 4 grandchildren. Life is quite an adventure. When one door closes, there are windows, cracks anything to set you free again. I write using my maiden name, Melba Pena. I do my own illustrations and have many spiritual, love, aging, despair, dark poems for every age and interest. I just won 4th prize for a short story that will be published in a few weeks. Getting into the writing business is not easy but this is my first contest I have even placed. So I'm happy. I'll give you more information as I get it.
