Melia's Story
Life
After graduating from Montgomery, I went off to Southern California to get out on my own and pursue a degree in Law at The University of LaVerne. After 10 minutes of freedom (my parents left) the cross country coach begged me to join their team, so I did. Two weeks into it, I met my husband, who, although not a runner by any stretch, had decided to join so he could "meet" people. We dated all through college. I ended up changing my major several times with a final decision on psychology and sociology. Thinking that I was going to rid the world's children of every injustice, I thought about pursuing social services, but then I landed a teaching job. Kindergarten! hildren, I had reached complete burn-out. I decided to join Target Stores as a Personnel Manager about the same time we bought our first home. That same month we found out that I was pregnant with Rebekah! We were not prepared to start a family that soon. Oh well! She was born in 1996 and we have another new addition to our family, Emmett was born in July of 1999. I still work for Target in Human Resources at our LA distribution center in Fontana. I took a demotion in order to be with my kids. I am also classified as the building's Media Specialist, working to promote communication between the hourlies and executives. As of 2001, I am pursuing my masters degree in education to go into school counseling. (Isn't that what I did at Montgomery?) I've been married seven years and have a beautiful family! I couldn't be happier!
