Melinda's Story
Life
Hi,
It's me, Melinda. I've been in Atwater, Ohio since 1994. I got married and then divorced. I have one very handsome 14 year old son named Taylor. He's named after his Great Great Great Uncle Taylor Tharpe. We live in a small farm house built in 1920. We have a rhodesian ridgeback, 2 pygmy goats, 9 cayuga ducks, a ferret, a parakeet, 2 kingsnakes, and of course "The Python". <- She's my real passion. I work at Wal*Mart in Alliance, Ohio. Some of them call me the "Snake Lady" there. We're expexting 5 pot belllied pigs on Saturday, Sep 30th.
I'm the official family historian for my Mullens side of the family. I do genealogy research as a hobby. Got 2000 names in my tree so far. I'm truly obsessed. I also transcribe and photograph cemeteries and post them online at my site, melindasgraveyard.com.
I don't get back to Cuyahoga Falls too often. My parents don't live there anymore. They're both from W Va so my siblings and I are the only ones who were raised there in the Falls. We have no history there. Just...Expand for more
memories. Some good, some bad. My favorite place was the river. Spent a whole lot of time there. Also spent a great deal of time in Oakwood Cemetery (Go figure!!) behind my house on Whitelaw St. My best friends were Cathey Krause and Cheryl Krejci in grade and middle school. In high school my best friends were Penny Shumaker and Sandy Hollata. My first real boyfriend was Dan Kiley. He was 2 years older than me. We dated for 3 years I think. It was so long ago.
My son, Taylor, is the son of Charles Burner from Norton. Chuck died in 1998 in a house fire so I'm Taylor's only parent. Chuck and I were never married. I met him at Gene's Lounge in Norton. I was working there in my wilder days. Believe me, my days were really wild. I rode with a local chapter of Hell's Angels when I was 14 (Hmmm, same age as my son now!). That's a scary thought. Now I'm just a frumpy country mom. My dreams of being great didn't pan out. I'm still where I want to be though. Wild horses couldn't drag me back into the city. I'm happy where I'm at.
