Melinda's Story
Life
I graduated from San Francisco State with a BA in Accounting in 1978 and then after working a few years went back to St. Mary's College and received my MBA in 1986. I've worked for a number of federal agencies, a major university, and a major research institute before landing in my current agency, the National Credit Union Administation. We regulate and insure credit unions across the US. I worked my way up from an examiner in California to my current position as the Chief Examiner for the Agency. I provide leadership for almost 1,000 employees, both in an office environment and connected to us remotely via computer. e made a hand full of dear friends located across the country. My favorite part of the job is the opportunities I have to speak in front of groups of credit union people. I'm committed to the idea of democratically controlled financial institutions and get excited when I see the difference I can make in people's lives. I have the responsibility and fulfillment of working on national policy issues and through that work impacting the lives of millions of US consumers. Would love to hear from the old buddies and I hope all are doing great!!!!
College
My first college roommate was the daughter of a Beverly Hills dermatologist. My next one was the daughter of a wealthy private telephone company owner. Needless to say they both taught me that my life was very different from theirs, but that we were all the same when it came to the important things...family, friends, and ourselves.
