Melissa's Story

Life Hey y'all! How is everybody? I'm doing GREAT! I work for Office Max part time, but since I finished school and became a license massage therapist I have been working for myself and I love it! Anyhow, life is good! I hope you ALL have the success and happiness that we ALL deserve! I hope to see you all at the reunion (whenever that may be)! Live well, Laugh often, Love much! Stay strong '98! School Ok, I have to say, while I was forced to be in school, I hated it, but now that it is a choice, I LOVE it!!! There were a few great teachers, and a few awful ones, there was pretty much a school wide agreement on who fell into each of those categories! Let's see, being honest I would have to say my biggest crush in high school was on Kris (J) Huffman (Sorry), I actually proposed to him once! I have long since gotten over that and hope he is happy in life, but he'd better e-mail me more! The funniest memory I have about school is a bus trip to a volleyball game and Coach Corral got us started on one of those memory games where you have to list everything everyone else has said and add one. This one was "I'm going to the beach and I'm taking a..." Like I said, Coach went first and said she was taking a pickle. Picture if you will a bus full of teenage girls with their minds in the gutter and their coach says she is going to the beach and taking a pickle. That is a moment we all laughed about for YEARS! (Sorry coach) If I had it all to do again, I wouldn't, I was miserable in school because I wasn't allowed to be who I am by anybody, the school, my parents, my peers. Anytime I tried to be myself, people thought I was being ridiculous or they thought that I thought I was better than them. The only ones who ever let me be myself were Ryal Steele & Lisa Myers and I love you guys for that! My friends now KNOW who I am, and I can't hide it, they won't let me. It is the best feeling ever! I guess it pays to grow up. If anyone ever saw the real me and felt like I was being condescending, I apologize, I wasn't, I was just being me. College I have been through the wringer when it comes to college, and yet, I still love it! Round 1-I started out at Sac City and had a major blow up with a coach there, so I went to ARC and ran into way too many people from high school that I could do without seeing. Round 2-I took a year off and then went back to Sac City and avoided my old coach like the plague! I did well while I was there, but my heart wasn't in Sacramento so I moved to Utah where I wa...Expand for more
s happiest and I was told I only needed 1 year for residency tuition, I decided to wait because, even resident tuition is ridiculous here. Half way through my 1 year, the rules changed to two years! I tried to apply for an exception because Utah has a "long standing ties to the state" loop hole and my grandma has lived in the same house for 40 years so I figured I qualified. WRONG! Apparently I personally didn't live here long enough before moving to California for that loop hole to apply to me. I was finally eligible last spring, but my mom was going to trade school, so I had to watch my nephew for her(he lives with my mom). I am finally going to get back to school after 3 years! I am so excited, I only have a few credits left to go and honestly wish I had just stayed in Cali until I finished school because this tuition is killing me! Round 3-I'm going to finish in 3 semesters and I can't wait, of course, then I am going to go for my Masters! Workplace Well, work has been weird for me. I didn't get my first job until after high school. It was probably the best job I have ever had, I miss it to this day! I worked at In-N-Out Burger, no sarcasm, it truly was a great job and I miss it dearly! From there I went to work for the State of California as a receptionist, not as good a job, but better pay and benefits. I decided to move to Utah about a year and a half later and got a job at a bowling alley, alas, the season ended and so did my work. From there I went to a book store, Seagull Book & Tape, which was awesome, but it paid squat, so I found a job with Chevron Credit Bank, three words-call centers SUCK! I worked there for about 7 months and had had MORE than enough! I managed to get on as a teachers aide at Deerfield Elementary School, but the school year ended a few months later and I had to fill the summer. Back to my fast food roots, I got sentenced to work at Arctic Circle, not the worst place in the world, but I HATED it! I moved up to running shifts fairly quickly, but they weren't paying me equal to what I was doing so I found a better paying job with benefits. New Concept Mortgage is what I found and I still work there now, it has been a year and it is a great job. I have been looking to find a job at the University of Utah because I would like to get half off my tuition when I start going to school there next fall. Not to mention, I've wanted to work there since before I moved here! I will be happiest when I am in a classroom teaching, but until then, I will keep on truckin!
