Melissa's Story
my story was downloaded from Facebook- so I guess I need to change it.
Hi Everyone- it was great to see some of your updates on classmates too! made me think we need another reunion! :)
After graduation I went to BCC- I wanted to be a paralegal...landed up loving accounting (who says that :P) I transferred to UMass Dartmouth where I earned a Bachelors in Accounting. I starting working at UMass Dartmouth the summer after graduation and a job opened up; almost 20 years later, and a few different job positions, I am still there. I now work in the college I graduated from, the Charlton College of Business. I help students and the business community connect through a number of different venues. I also earned my MBA in 2007.
I married my prom date- and the person most of you will remember more then me :) Joe Pacheco, in 1998. Our classmate, Wayne Pacheco's older (or Joe would try to say younger) brother. My story gets a bit deep here, our first daughter Katelyn died at 12 days old in 2002. She changed my life. 2002-2004 were not good years for us. I did find something I didn't really have in school- a close personal relationship with Christ- that may seem strange but my faith really helped me during those very dark days (and still does today). (see told you it would be deep for a bit- ok, a...Expand for more
ll done. )
In 2005 our daughter Julia was born. She is awesome and going to Westport Schools.
I also am a member of the Westport School Committee- well as of writing, 2015. It is so great to be able to see our teachers, our schools and be a part of some really great work being done. That being said it can be tough too.Things don't always go the way they should and sometimes things happen behind the sceens- confidential issues or worse- other peoples hidden agenda's that weigh down the productivity that could actually occur. Most days I can see past that, we all have to. - I am striving towards a new school for our students, more programs- yet struggling with the same issues of lack of funding that they did back when we were in school.
What does my future hold? I think I may go back for my doctoral degree and run for re-election, but more importantly my family is great. I love them so much. I can't wait to get home every day to see my daughter and hear about her day. I most likely will always live in Westport, unless my daughter decides to live somewhere else. I also love to see many of you on Facebook- it is great to catch up. If we are not FB friends- send me a request! If you are still reading this- thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a wonderful story to tell too! God Bless :)
