Life Born in Bentley,Kansas. Moved to Susanville in 1940. Moved to Janesville the second half of the 3rd grade. Moved to the Missouri Bend School District the second half of the 6th grade. Hated riding the bus into Susanville to go to High School, but loved all the classes available to me. When not in class my favorite place was the library. My friend, Phyllis Jeter used to say I would disappear into the library. After graduation I applied for work at every business in Susanville. The only job I found was as a nanny. In June of 1955 my Uncle sent word of openings at the Naval Base where he worked. I Arrived at China Lake, Ca. on a Wednesday and started working the following Monday. I was hired as "The Assistant to the Head Librarian". The work was perfect for me and I gradually worked my way from trainee to head librarian for the last 20 years of my career. I had a wonderfull career of 42 years. One of the things I enjoyed about my job as librarian was the opportunity to meet people from all over the world. Scientists and military personnel from other nations came to China Lake for training, conferences, etc. and spent many of their free hours in the library. My education didn't stop with High School.
