Melvin's Story
Life
Like a bunch of other blackcats I got a BS degree at A&I, Kingsville. I taught in Spring Branch for three years. I then attended A&M where I completed a masters in educational technology. Soon I was off to Huntsville where I spent 18 years as a media specialist and administrator in the prison education program.
Pam Parr and I met again at our 10 year reunion and got married the following March. We lived in Huntsville and had a son and daughter. We moved to Brenham in 1993 where I invested in a small cabinet business start up. The small woodshop soon grew to 25 employees within 18 months. I am general manager now and we have almost 50 employees.
Traci is now 28 married and has three blonde haired blue eyed girls that are so stinkin cute I can't believe it! Randy 26 is engaged to a wonderful girl who will be completing her master's in nutrition at Sam in December.
Randy finished his advertising and graphic design degree last May and has been working for a sign company.

e in Wharton in 1977 and I was in Huntsville. I tried calling her almost every day during the two weeks following our reunion with no answer. I decided Pam must be a "party girl" and decided to try just one more time... early in the morning. I took the paper and dialed her number at 6am for my final attempt. I had already crushed the small paper and thrown it in the trash can when all of a sudden I heard a sleepy "hello". It was Pam and she said she had been home all the time. I didn't know she was working at the hospital from 3pm to 11pm. The rest is history as we have been happily married, sharing hobbies and raising kids for 29 years.
On August 27th 2007 I spent 6.5 hours in surgery at Methodist hospital in the Medical Center Houston. Dr. Mineo a fabulous surgeon removed my left kidney with a 4.5 lb tumor attached. I had no idea there was a growth the size of a small baby inside me. In one month I was back at work. I received a great pathology report. I am a strong Christian and understand that I had many people supporting me with prayer. A little chemo and good clean living keep me going strong for about 30 or more years.
