4 yrs USAF 28 yrs Philco/Ford/Loral as aerospace engr retired 1988, homes in Los Altos CA and Sun City West AZ. R/E and stock market investor.
College
All higher education credits were earned during evenings and weekends while employed. Undergrad through Univ. of Maryland in Japan while in the Air Force. BS evenings at San Jose State in California. Vanderbilt MS at Oxford and Cambridge while working in England. I have not yet visited the Vanderbilt home campus.
Workplace
Flunked out of Chinese language school in Air Force (who needs a blue-eyed Mandarin speaker). Graduated radio maintenance school, one year in Texas, 33 months in Japan, fun. Helped build and test Courier satellite at Phil...Expand for more
co, worked on Polaris and Poseidon missles at Lockheed. Joined Philco Techrep (later Ford aerospace) satellite support / command and control work at Thule AB, Greenland, Seychelles, Guam, Hawaii and stateside sites. Wrote tech manuals in Palo Alto till I got restless then back overseas to England and Germany on Air Force contracts. Retired in 1988 when investment income reached 3X salary. By year 2000 I owned 30 rental houses, still own four.
Health
I have Parkinson's disease - getting shakey, etc. - don't know how long I will live with this but it does affect quality of life.- (gave up my motorcycle). Presently negotiating for deep brain stimulation operation. I understand that, if it is successful, I could regain most normal functions - so long as I keep the battery charged. I'll be bionic - Didn't
happen - doc says I'm not sick enough for that.
