Melvin's Story
I wanted to be a medical doctor... I think because of my mom's death on my 4th Birthday.
As a Junior in High School I was elected youth pastor in my chrch... and became convinced that I needed to become a minister...preacher...missionary...pastor... or in some way to serve the Lord in a full time way... (I was sure mom had gone to heaven... maybe it was still a need to somehow connect... and do whatever I could to go to heaven also...
Did not date in High School... walk a girl home from church once in a while, had a good friend that was older (she had dated my brother... like a big sister to me)...
Had a rocky childhood, left home in summer between my 10th and 11th grade... worked and went to school... did not have time for sports...extra activities.
Very involved in Church... interdenominational, Baptist... licenced to preach at age 17 by Noble Avenue Baptist Church... worked for SH Kress and Company, and Van Hoozier's Groceries, feed and seed
Went to Oklahoma Baptist Univ. continued to work at SH Kress in Shawnee, OK... joined OK national Guard, 45th Inv. Div. ...served in Korea 51-52... Discharged... moved to get out of Guard... went to Louisiana College (Baptist Univ).
Wrote to girl during my Korean time, and married her during my LC days...Helen Johnston.
Graduate LC in summer of 1954 BA Bible, Double minor; Ancient Languages and History. Went to SWBTS at Fr. Worth, TX 54-55; NOBTS 55-58 - major studies in Greek language and translation of NT Greek. M.Div 58 - worked for Sears: Cashier, Accounting and mapping and loading deliveries, Jefferson Parish during Seminary days. Student Pastorate: Des Allemands.

Invited to work on THD upon graudation at NOBTS... wife said I had a choice, family or more school... choice, easy...family.
Pastorate: Melder Baptist, Central LA; Calvary Baptist, Viena, Associate Minister First Baptist Ruston, LA, and St. Charles Baptist, New Orleans, LA.. USAF Chaplain 1963-1982.

Resigned pastorate effective 1 Sept 86 after 4 years - conclusion that I was a missfit in a local Baptist Church.
Employed in Insurance sales and managment 86 to 2007.
87 invited to teach New Testament in St. George' Seminary (Oxford in US) - biovocational Invited to serve St. Michael and All Angeles Anglican Church (very conservative Episcopalain), in El Pso, Texas.. priested, in 1999 elected as Suffragan Bishop of the Diocese of the Sothwest, and in 2001 elected Bishop Ordinary of Anglican Diocese of the Good Shepherd, and President of St. George's. Recieved DD degree (Honorary) in 1996 for work in St. George's. Earned D. Min. Anglican Convocation of the Good Shepherd Seminary in 2010.
Continue to serve as presiding bishop of the Anglican Convocation of the Good Shepherd, US and past president of Anglcian Church Internatioanl Communion (internatioanal body).
