Melvin's Story
Here I am--a little wiser and a little smarter then when I gradurated from H S. After HS I got my Associate Degree from International Business College and worked for Marsh Supermarkets out of Yorktown before being drafted into the army in 63 for a couple of years. I spent about 17 months of that 2 years in Hawaii-(yes at Christmas it is better to be on sand then being in snow). Then I returned to Portland and worked as a Accountant,Office Manager at the now defunct Ballastran Corp. Then i took off for our State capital and worked in several different departments of the Indiana Employment Security Division for most of 30 years. After being retired for several months i then became employed as a Night Auditor at a hotel an now at age 69 I am only working about 28 hours a week (3rd shift) a the the hotel.I have now lived in Fishers for the past ten years and am enjoying life ve...Expand for more
ry munch. Over the years i have been very involved in church activities and used to work with the youth in my younger days. Now as a senior citizen I present a little devotion at our retires lucheon several times during the year and spend many hours reading and playing on my PC. Being single I also enjoy eating out at some nice restrants with friends and relatives. My four sisters have always made me a part of their families and I still have good friends from my old home town and perhaps will retire to Portland if i live long enough. To the Portland gradurating classs of "57" I must say i really have enjoyed attending our Alumni socials over the years and still refer to Portland as my home town--I think it was a great community to have grown up in and keep hopeing some day Jay County High School will win a state basketball championship--before I get to old to attend.
