Merle's Story
The most exciting adventure in my life took place in 1972, when my high-school sweetheart, currently husband of 35 years, Greg and I traveled for a year and a half. We started in California backbacking in Big Sur, then Yosemite, where we met 2 New Yorkers from Queens, who later housed us prior to the European adventure. Traveling all along the West Coast, I remember the beauty of Oregon and then onto Washington, where we backpacked seriously for 8 days through Olympic National Park -- saw one person the whole time and fantastic sunsets. Upon exiting at the Puget Sound, we made our way into Canada. Wow! ...Expand for more
British Columbia, Alberta -- Lake Louise, the Prairies. The whole country was set up with student hostiles to comfort young travelers going to wherever their destination would be -- ours was Europe. Crossing back into the U.S.A via Niagra Falls into upstate New York -- could have been heaven had it not been for all the mosquitos. The guys from Queens showed around the City and China Town. Then after 4 days we bid them good bye and took off from Kennedy Airport. The rest is all exotica and incredible memories and experiences. Glad to have been able to live in Europe on $5- $10 a day for over a year!!
