Merrianne's Story
Life
I grew up in an average family - not too dysfunctional, not the Cleavers either. I've been in 3 successful committed relationships, the first two ended because my partners and I had changed over time (well, actually we grew up and became different people) my current partner and I have been together since '93 and I can't imagine being with anyone else. When we had the opportunity to get married we did so - our anniversary is 8-8-08 and we were married by a Judge friend in Department 8 over in the El Cajon Courthouse (our friend swapped courtrooms with the Judge assigned to Dept. 8 at that time as a surprise to us.)
We have a full life, enjoy our friends and family. We have fur-kids rather than human ones, but enjoy being "indulgent aunts". My mother lived the last 5 1/2 years of her life with us, in a granny-flat be had built over our garage. Mom was a delight for both of us, despite her health problems and we both miss her silly antics.
Life is good, nothing terribly exciting going on, just a satisfying day-to-day. We both dive so we vacation underwater whenever possible. I dive locally in San Diego as often as possible, generally a dive on the weekend (either boat or shore) and a mid-week night dive at La Jolla Shores. Because I experience enough vicarious drama in my client's lives, I'...Expand for more
m very very happy to have an ordinary and peaceful existence.
Workplace
After graduating from CHS I worked in landscaping and obtained my contractor's license. Then I went to work for the City of San Diego and held several different jobs, working for various departments for about 14 years. During that time I finished my BS in business admin and then completed law school. There weren't any openings with the City Attorney at that time, so I opened my own practice in '94 and later merged with two other attorneys to create our firm where I work today.
My practice as evolved primarily into estate planning with an emphasis on families and helping parents create plans that really protect their children in the event they are unable to care for them because of injury, illness or death. The "out of the box" estate plans are woefully lacking in that area. I also represent folks in probate court who need to administer the estate of someone who's passed on, or who are in the middle of conflict (usually with other family members) involving an estate of someone who has died. I'm pleased to be on the list of attorneys that the probate judges appoint to represent elders with dementia and developmentally disabled adults who are the subject of conservatorships. I love my work and have loved (nearly) all my jobs.
