Mia's Story
Life
um. let's see. It is not a very exciting story, but here goes. I got my B.A. from Rutgers, then worked as an Academic Advisor in the Athletic Department for a few years while I got my Master's Degree in Education. Traveled to Europe and Africa during this time, and across the country a couple of times. Spent summers working up in the Adirondacks as a counselor and environmental educator. Went to Alaska, Prague, and Austria for a visit. Got married to my college sweetheart after I got my Master's, and we left NJ, moved briefly to CT, got our dog, Bo, then to Hanover, New Hampshire. He is a college rowing coach, and got a job at Dartmouth College. It was in NH that I taught my first official year of high school, at a regional school in the woods; it was a great place, great kids, and I also got better at downhill skiing which was fun! But it was too lonely up there, hard to make friends when the houses are so far apart and the town shuts down at 9:30...Expand for more
p.m. So when my husband got an offer in CT, we came back. Now I'm teaching English again, after staying home for 6 years with my kids. My youngest is almost 3 now, my oldest is 7. My dog is still hanging in there, so is my husband, and we're just about through changing diapers, so things are getting easier. We are just about make some major changes to our house which should keep us busy and hopefully we all won't kill each other. My family- mom, dad, brothers, are all good, too, but I lost my father-in-law suddenly, who I loved very much, this fall. Miss him. I spend my days correcting papers, cleaning up after the kids, feeding everyone, lesson planning, and when I have "free time" I knit, read a book, take a hike, ice skate, run, whatever. I want to go to Italy someday soon. I love watching my kids grow and finding new (and old) music to listen to on my ipod. Isn't it funny the way the 80's are back? I will never wear leggings or scrunchy boots again!
