Michael's Story
My life" story;
After AHS, Did not have money for college so I enlisted in the USAF. crossed paths with many classmates at basic training. Fred Fair and I served together at Luke AFB in Phoenix ,AZ . My first assignment was as an Airframe repair specialist on RF-4Cs with the 58th Tactical Fighter Training Wing at Luke. Asked for Vietnam, went to Ramey AFB, PR, worked on C-130 Hurricane Hunters. From there we moved the unit, 53rd Weather Recon Sq. to Keesler AFB, MS.. After a year there, I transferred to the 436th Field Maint Sq at Dover AFB, Delaware and worked on C5As for 6 months. In Jan. 1975 went to school at Keesler and retrained as an Air Traffic Controller then to Patrick AFB, Fl. as a Radar approach Controller. in Feb. 77 transferred to Castle AFB, CA again as a Radar approach controller. and began my civilian career as an FAA Air Traffic Controller at Sarasota airport Fl. Transferred to Miami Int airport for 4 yrs then on to Tampa Int for 8 1/2 yrs and then finally to Atlanta Int airport for my last 10 years in the FAA, retiring in Nov. 2004.. However in Aug. 2001, 3 weeks before Sept 11, I reenlisted in the AF Reserves for another 10 years and served as an Airfield Management Spec and as a Command Post Spec. I deployed 4 times in support of the War On terrorism including tours in Spain and England. I retired from the USAF in Aug 2011 after 20 yrs of service. I have three children and four grand children and have been married for 35 yrs.. Our youngest son also served in the Air Force as an F16 Crew Chief with a combat tour in Iraq in 2008. Now enjoying retirement and life! God is good! Moved to Las Vegas in May 2020 to be close to my grandkids!
