Michael's Story
Growing up in Boyle Heights was wonderful, I still have over 10 long time friends that I still talk to in my life, most I have known for over 40 years or more. Boyle Heights in the 60's and 70's was the place to be, hanging out after school at Talpa, Evergreen Park and the neighborhood, I had alot of good friends, we participate in sporting events locally, hung out at the pool, and enjoyed our summers. We had Downtown just a bus ride away, we would all take route 47 to downtown and visit Cliftons, or walk down the street to Manuel's ( El Tepeyac ) or Ciro's for breakfast on Sunday mornings. Do you remember Diggity Dog on Soto, when I was kid, they had the neon light advertising 15 hot dogs for a Dollar. Do you remember the soda shop and news stand on the corner of Soto and 1s...Expand for more
t, or the old folks home, on Mott and 1st..All these memories are still in our heads, just needs someone to bring them out, those were the days...would you like to share more about what you remember about the neighborhood you grew up in and what you miss when you go back to the old neighborhood, I wish I had children to show them my roots, but it was nice to hear my father talk about the days he was a kid in Oxnard and Boyle Heights in the 40's, and 50's. How do you blow off steam?
I stand on the surf at the beach, break out the fishing pole and fish all day, watching people with their dogs, walkers, joggers, beach goers all enjoying a day at the beach, the sounds of the waves crashing against the surf, the ocean breeze and lastly, a fish on my line...
