Michael's Story
I have been in the Navy for over 18 years, and for some of you from my high school days that may still remember me, that notion probably seems rather fantastic. It is true however, that like many of you, I reached a point in my life when I was prompted to change direction and become more responsible, and contribute to society.
I miss having long hair at times, and at times I miss partying it up with old friends. The life I have chosen to this point, however, is very satisfying, and much less worrisome. I'm certainly not paranoid about the police, because I have nothing to hide anymore (ie. no "roaches" in my ashtray, or driving after drinking too much, etc.).
I have chosen to walk a less risky path through the remainder of my life, with a wonderful and supportive wife and 4 beautiful healthy children.
I thank God for my family and friends everyday. I give more credit and gratitude to my Heavenly Father for many more people and things than I have ever done so before. This attitute of gratitude has been instrumental in fostering within me a gr...Expand for more
eater sense of peace and sense of accomplishment in my life.
In some areas I haven't grown up at all, or I have not allowed myself to. I am still the "hard rocker" I was in high school, just without the partying aspect (oh, and the long hair!LOL). I am much more confident, creative, and have a greater familiarity with my guitar and in the areas of audio recording and engineering. I still love attending loud Hard Rock and Heavy Metal concerts! I suppose you can say the adrenaline rush I get from this is a substitute for my doing drugs or drinking.
In the immortal words of Mr. Joe Walsh,"Life's been good to me so far." I have very few regrets in my life. Everything good or bad has resulted in my participation in countless learning experiences designed to refine me into a better person, and along the way I have found more to appreciate in others.
I have recently returned from my third Navy deployment in Kuwait, to find my 4 children a little taller, and a little bit smarter and wiser. I am very grateful to be back with my loving family again.
