Michael's Story
Life
After moving from Asheville, NC where we lived for 11 years, Leisa and I currently live in Senoia, GA. Senoia is a small (2000 people) town located between Newnan GA and Peachtree City. It is a great place to live ...Smalltown USA but close enough to go into ATL if you want to.
We don't have any kids, but we do have three Havanese dogs and two cats. We actually raise Havanese. You can visit our website under Ennagaldi Havanese. They're just the best little dogs. Great with kids and hypoallergenic too. They don't shed! Luckily, we have a couple of acres for everyone to run around!
Leisa works for Delta and I am writing children's books.
Currently, I'm working on a series of books for 7-12 year-olds that deal with various cities around the country and their prehistoric animals. With a little time travel courtesy of a device called the Paleo 1000 invented by Nikola Tesla in 1932 and some adventure, peril and intrigue thrown in; Nikki, our heroine, visits familiar cities and prehistoric places glimpsing what life was like millions of years ago.
Also, I'm working on a teacher's edition for classroom use and possibly a project with PBS featuring live action and CGI in a 30-60 minute TV format.
The first book dealing with New York City is at the publishers now awaiting illustrations and the second book focusing on Atlanta is finished in its writing stage. The first book launch is projected for summer 2010. I'm starting the Los Angeles book and the Chicago book next. In th...Expand for more
e planning stage are a Dallas; Orlando; London; Johannesburg, South Africa and a Moscow, Russia edition.
We recently (Sept 2007) returned from Las Vegas where we visited the infamous Area 51. Well, we went as far down the road leading to it as you can before the men in beige Chevy pickups with loaded automatic weapons come down from their positions on the ridge and arrest you! It was a hoot! Weird, but a great time! We didn't see any aliens, though. We did see buildings that seemed to disappear in the horizon! On the way back to Vegas, we almost drove to Pahrump to visit Art Bell for all of you Coast to Coast AM fans. Maybe next time!
Then we went back to Vegas and drove 180 miles north to Delta, UT to dig for trilobites.
Later in 2008, we have a trip to Ithaca, NY planned to visit the Paleontological Research Institute and a trip to Chicago planned.
For 2009; it seems to be more puppies, more children's fossil book research and a family trip to Disneyworld in December with my 7 year-old nephew and my 4 year-old neice. I'm not so sure it will be a vacation, but it will be an adventure. There's a real reason Leisa and I never had kids! I've never been to Disneyworld, so it should be interesting.
Leisa wants me to plant some wine grapes in the "football field" this year (2009). From what I understand, the juice from those grapes won't even be fit for winemaking for seven years (2016)! I don't know if I can really wait that long.
Hope to hear from you,
Mike Barnette
