Michael's Story

Workplace TWD & Associates May 2004 to Present Lead Communications Material Security Manager for the Department of Homeland Security. Managing a 3 person team which provides secure communications for Secretary Ridge at headquarters and while traveling within the United States and abroad. Science Applications International Corporation Sep 2003 to May 2004 As a member of the System & Network Solutions Group, I have been responsible, as part of a twelve man team to develop, implement and conduct training and instruction related to Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (C4I) for a variety of instructional methods including classroom and Computer Based Training (CBT). As Team Leader, I assisted in the development and supervised the preparation of the technical training instruction for Royal Saudi Arabian Navy (RSNF) Command Center personnel. I developed and designed computer based and multi-media curriculum in response to specific system training requirements. I was also responsible for defining and designing software based learning objectives that measured student progress and recorded achievement during course progress. As the team leader I was required to meet with clients to identify project requirements, develop project plans and schedules, write, test and implement software according to the client’s specifications. Military Electronics Technician Chief Michael Beyrle, a native of Rochester, New York, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in September 1979 and reported to Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois. Following graduation, he attended Radioman “A” School and Basic Electronics and Electricity School at Naval Training Command, San Diego, California. In May 1980, he reported for Basic Enlisted Submarine School in Groton, Connecticut. In May 1981, he reported for his first sea duty assignment to USS WOODROW WILSON (SSBN 624)(Blue), homeported in Charleston, SC, where he earned his Enlisted Submarine Warfare pin. In September 1983 he attended Submarine Electronics Technical Training at Advanced Submarine School in Groton, Conn. He again returned to Charleston, SC and was assigned to USS RAY (SSN 653), where he participated in the first multi-ship surfacing of three submarines at the North Pole in May 1986. llistic Missile Submarine Training Center in Charleston, SC duty as a Special Communications instructor. During this tour he qualified as an Instructor and was designated a Master Training Specialist. In January 1990 he transferred to the USS BATON ROUGE (SSN 689) home-ported in Norfolk, Virginia. Shortly after arriving he cross-decked to the USS ASHEVILLE (SSN 758) also home-ported in Norfolk, Virginia. In July 1992 he was assigned as the Command Chief on USNS STALWART (TAGOS-1) home-ported in Little Creek, Virginia. The ship was assigned to counter narcotics operations in the Caribbean and the Pacific. During this tour he had the opportunity to transit the Panama Canal four times. Following this successful tour, he transferred in September 1993 to the staff of Commander, Submarine Squadron EIGHT, in Norfolk, Virginia. June 1995 he reported overseas to the USS SIMON LAKE (AS 33), home-ported in LaMaddalena, Italy. His communications division earned an unprecedented five green ‘C” awards. In June 1997 he reported to the staff of Commander, Submarine Group EIGHT, Naples, Italy as the Task Force Communicator. During this tour, he had the pleasure of riding all the submarines that entered the Mediterranean Theater. He was also responsible for the installation of communication equipment and training the crews on board NATO submarines. In November 2000 he accepted orders to Commander, Naval Network and Space Operations Command, Detachment at the Nebraska Avenue Complex, Washington, DC. In September of 2002, Chief Beyrle reported to his final assignment as the Communications Department Leading Chief Petty Officer for Commander, Military Sealift Command, Washington, DC. During this tour he was elected and served two terms as the President of the Naval District Washington Chief Petty Officers Association. Chief Beyrle graduated from Excelsior College in 2003 with an Associate of Science Degree in Technical Studies. His personal decorations include the Joint Services Commendation Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with one gold star. He has two sons, Michael Jr. and Raymond both currently serving on active duty in the Navy and Coast Guard respectively. After 24 years of service, he retired on 30 September 2003 and is currently residing in Waldorf, MD.
