Michael's Story
On June 26th, 2007 Michael Brennan announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination in the First Congressional District of Maine.
A Portland, ME native, Michael Brennan has spent the last 30 years as an activist, advocate, researcher, teacher, social worker, legislative leader, husband, father and friend working to build a better Maine.
Michael is a licensed clinical social worker and currently works as a policy associate at the Muskie School of Public Service where he directs projects related to child welfare, substance abuse, mental health and public policy. He is also an adjunct faculty member at the University of New England.

House of Representatives from 1992-2000, where he served as Chair of the Education Committee, and the Maine Senate from 2002-2006 where he served as Senate Majority Leader and Chair of the Health and Human Services Committee.
He earned his BS in Education from Florida State University, his MA in Public Policy from the Muskie School of Public Service at the University of Southern Maine, his MSW from the University of New England and has completed the Senior Executive Program in State and Local Government at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
He lives in Portland, Maine with his wife of twenty-seven years, Joan Martay, and their two children, Travis and Ryan.
