Michael's Story
I left Belton, MO, at the end of my Junior year (1971) when my father retired from the USAF. I really missed having the opportunity to graduate with all of my friends in the class of '72.
We moved to Jacksonville, FL, to be closer to my grandparents. After graduating High School, I attended the University of North Florida while working full-time at the Federal Reserve Bank of Jacksonville. I graduated with a Bachelor of Technologies (BT) in Computer Info. Systems Technology. After 13 years at the FRB, I went to work for Barnett Computing Company (a subsidiary of Barnett Banks of Florida) where I was the AVP of Systems Planning & VP Corporate Banking at Barnett Banks Inc. In 1991 I went to work for Cap Gemini Sogeti, a Paris-based international consulting company. In 1994 I took a left-turn and went to work for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida as the Senior Director of Health Business Strateg...Expand for more
y. After 10 years with BCBSF, I returned to the management consulting industry and moved to Atlanta to take on leadership roles with KPMG and Accenture. In 2014 after working as a Lead Business Architect for the initial design for Healthcare.gov., I left Accenture to form my own company Syzygy Management Consulting. Covid-19 has not been kind to our small firm, but we still have some very loyal clients. During the slow periods , I worked in adjunct roles with several private prep schools in the Atlanta area.
I've been married to Lisa van Devender (who I met on Match.com) for almost seventeen years. The lady must love me since she's still with me after being moved four times (Jacksonville to Minneapolis to Philadelphia and now to Atlanta). We are trying to keep our two businesses going until we reach 70 and then hope to retire to Europe (still trying to decide where, but leaning towards Italy).
