Michael's Story
Aloha,
After Highschool...
2yrs at Oregon State University - Science & Horticulture. Had fun...learned alot (about life - too bad the grades didn't show it...) Then went to work full time with a Custom Landscape Design & Construction business. Started and ran a maintenance division to keep income coming in during the winter. The physical labor started to take a toll on the body so I moved into Financial Consulting. Licensed with SEC and sold stocks, bonds, insurance. Got bored and needed a change - ready to travel. 1986 - joined Navy and went to Engineering School Advanced Program. Excelled at everything and took as many engineering courses as I could get my hands on and qualified for every qualification I could - this attitude resulted in rapid advancement and specialty quals & awards. Rec orders to Guided Missle Cruisers Fleet (San Diego & Pearl Harbor)and completed 2 tours of duty in Persian Gulf. 1988 during Iran/Iraq war and 1991 Desert Shield/Storm. 1992 - Got out of Navy and decided to stay in Hawaii. Over the next 16 years I took on a number of jobs including: Maintenance Mechanic with Dole Hawaii, Lead Engineer at a Power Plant, moved into residential/commercial building maintenance, and finally into Hotel & Resort Engineering/Operations/Project Management.
Married in 2002 and had a daughter in 2006.
Interestingly enough, I remember all too well the High School Band trip to Hawaii in 1980 - and remember saying after the trip that Hawaii was fun, but I'd never want to live there. Well, I have now lived in Hawaii for 20 years!

The Engineer in me is satisfied with LEGO's and all the possible creations (motors, gears, robotics, etc). The creative side is expressed in photography, graphic design, and music - I still play guitar (Classical & Hard Rock).
