Michael's Story
Michael Iron Eagle Scott Cochrane
I was born in 1947 and I am 73 years old. I am the oldest of two brothers. I am a Native American on the Cherokee rolls of 1977. I attended college from 1965 to 1966 prior to going into the service in 1966. I am a veteran of the Viet Nam era having served from 1966 to 1972. In 1972 and 1973 I attended college and earned another degree using my GI Bill and a BIA scholarship. I quit school full time to support my family. I continued part time from then in college. I just had my fifth Daughter when I quit. I then worked as a contractor as my Grandfather and father had.
Construction was good to me. I was a design builder a combination of an Architect and a General Contractor with an electrical and drywall license. That meant I designed and built projects from a doghouse to multiple level houses to shopping centers. Most contractors are a builder and not a designer at the same time.
After my first wife died and all of our children moved away in 1995, I became a pastor for over two years. I had raised my five daughters and was called Mr. Mom prior to the movie of the same name. I now enjoy the title of Grandpa. Currently, I am a widow and recently lost my last wife of ten years to cancer in January of 2011. I have lost my last two special women to that disease. I married in 2018 and very happy.
I still donate time in building and designing Churches for all types of faiths and am active in Habitat for Humanity. I lived on an Indian reservation for two years in Bishop, California, giving of my construction talents to the tribe in completing projects started and not finished. In 1998, I re-opened the construction company. In 2008, I stopped being a full time licensed contractor with over 40 years experience.
I choose to build my own house, as I had wanted to do my whole career. I built it from the ground up on land I had purchased in 1999 when I visited the Florence area on the coast in Oregon. I achieved the goal of a lifetime when I built my house all by myself from clearing the lot to processing the trees to the installation of...Expand for more
a green type of septic system and actually using part of the wood processed to build and frame the house. I finished it in August of 2009.Currently I am building a shop with an apartment on one end
I went back to school in October of 2009. My goal to teach after I get the education I had to leave in 1973 to support my family. The Cherokees still help me support this bad habit called school. I currently teach part time on-line with my education I received. Have a Ed.D. as well as a Ph.D.
I have been an owner of a construction company and other related companies for my whole career. I have been in leadership as an owner and had as many as 150 Employees. I learned the hard way about leadership with the trial and error method.
Another book by Michael Iron Eagle is soon for the market. Age is not going to stop me from finishing as I am still active and in good health. My family lives into their 90s so I still have a number of years to go. I asked myself how many summers do I have left and realize I have quite a few more to finish another career. I have a 20 lb. cat and a dog. I travel between here and the desert where I go to get warm and play golf in the winter. I do love to fish and I live on a lake for that purpose. I camp on a lake down south in my RV when I go as the fishing is good there also. Michael Iron Eagle rides again from his desk in Central Oregon on the coast on a lake where he is catching Salmon, trout, Steelhead, Bass, catfish, or Perch as they come into the lake Here we still talk about the Lord and His importance in our lives. I love hotrods and currently have a jeep I race at the sand drags and drive on the street from time to time. Currently I am building a 1967 Chevy El Camino to run route 66 from Chicago to Santa Monica when and if I find another partner.
Wa do is a respectful Cherokee greeting that I give to you all.
No Na Hatari is a Cherokee way of saying that you find and walk the level path in Life. I offer that as a reminder.
Respectfully Submitted by the crazy Indian for your knowledge
