I must admit that I was a terrible student when I attended Leilehua High School. Academically, I did not challenge myself and was more concerned with having a good time. Yeah, I was one of those who frequented the four corners in the morning and then dragged my feet to class. As a result of my irresponsible behavior and partying all the time, my relationship with my father grew strained, so I joined the military in July 1974 to get away from a dysfunctional family environment. In hindsight, joining the service was perhaps a good decision; it forced me to be more responsible for my behaviors and accept responsibility for my choices.
