Michael's Story
After leaving Vanier in '73, I went to the Caribbean for a year to play and hone my "craft". I returned in '74 and attended Humber College for music with several other Vanier'ites', including Pete Coulman and Alastair Kay. After graduating, I worked as a freelance bassist/writer/recording engineer/producer doing anything and everything musically. In the meantime, I got a Masters Degree in Music from the New England Conservatory in Boston. I was also signed as a solo artist to Jazz Inspiration/MCA in 1990 and recorded two solo albums, and played on numerous others I was nominated for a Juno Award in 1994 for my first self titled solo album. om Berklee College of Music in Boston to apply for a full tenure position that was available. I applied and was offered the position. I moved to Boston in Sept. 1996, and am now Professor, Contemporary Writing and Production. I continue to write, record, and play, and am always involved in some kind of wonderful music experience. Additionally, my move to the US allowed me to pursue my other passion, one I inherited from my father (he was an Air Canada Captain) - aviation. I have been flying corporate jets on a part time basis for Linear Air, based in Bedford, MA. I have three beautiful boys, William, (with my first wife, Laura Frey), and Michael and Joshua here in Boston, with my wife, Aytul.
