Michael's Story
Life
This will take some time. It needs careful thought, given the 4000 character limitation.
Suffice to say, that my life has not been the same since March 1, 1995. But occasionally, I pretend it's like a glass of fine wine. I fill it up, sip it down, and then count my blessings that I've made it this far. I am thankful.
I put the bottle up until another time when I choose to toast life again and remind myself - I am glad to be alive.
School
You wouldn't believe it unless I wrote it. Never attended the same school twice in consecutive years. So here it goes: K - Lincoln Elementary (Pomona, Calif), 1st - unknown (Utah), 2nd - St. Joseph's (Pomona,Calif), 3rd - Oso Way Elementary (Woodland Hills, Calif), 4th - St. Bernardines (Canoga Park, Calif), 5th - Enadia Way Elementary (Canoga Park, Calif), 6th - St. Bernardines (Canoga Park, Cailf), 7th - St. Theresa's (Titusville, Fla), 8th - Patrick Henry JHS (Granada Hills, Calif), 9th - Robert Frost JHS (Granada, Hills, Calif), 10th - Granada Hills HS (Granada Hills,Calif), 11th - Kennedy HS (Granada Hills, Calif) and Garey HS (Pomona, Calif), 12th - Layton HS (Layton, Utah). Trouble maker, not hardly. Each new addition to family resulted in a larger home. And, my father's career contributed (aero-space). He came west from Wyoming during the 60's to help put a man on the moon.
College
Graduate of California Polytechnic University - Pomona. BS in Business Administration, emphasis accounting. Completed two years at Mt. San Antonio ...Expand for more
College in Walnut, California prior to enrollment at CSU-Pomona. GI Bill paid for it all. It was worth it.
My graduate and post-graduate education is now in the classroom of life. In the end I will know how I did, not before then.
Workplace
I'll come back to this latter. However, I've accepted that public agency senior management is not for me. Too much politics that is degrading for me and others. Politics - the use, abuse, purchase, and influence of "POWER."
My objectives throughout my career have been; get the job done, do it right, and take care of my people. So much for senior management. I should have been an USAF pilot flying jets for my Country. No problem with senior management in the military. Elected officials deal with the politics. We just follow the orders. Now that sounds scary.
Military
Suffice to say that if I had it to do over again, I would have gone to school ROTC and then serve as an officer. As an enlisted member I was smarter than most of the NCO's that supervised me. They were a poor example at best.
Nonetheless, I satisfied my objective for enlisting, to serve my country. My grandfather and his two brothers were in the Pacific and Europe. My father was in Korea. I tried but didn't make it to Vietnam. Not the kind of war I would have wanted to be in though. But from what I learned, neither was Korea.
Wish I could have accomplished more, stayed longer, made a difference, but I discovered my future, waiting for me to pursue, in the civilian world.
