Michael's Story
Life
Living here in the South makes me stand out. Especially when I open my mouth and the "Yankee tawk" takes over. I have been here in Tennessee, just south of Nashville for 16 years. I DON'T say "ya'll," "fixin to," or "reckin," my blood isn't UT orange, and I'm not into grits and gravy. My roots still run deep in Jersey!! Gimme a good slice of oily pizza anyday!!! I transfered here with GM in 1991. I have been with GM/Saturn for 28 years. Currently I am on a years vacation...with pay!! GM is re-tooling the plant, and getting ready for a new model.
I have 3 sons (23,21,18) and two step children. (25,21). Got divorced in 1999 and re-married in 2005...to a GREAT Jersey girl no less! Patti is from South Jersey. She doesn't tawk funny like me.
The life style here is much S-L-O-W-E-R than back home. Going to the store for a loaf of bread and a gallon of milk might take...Expand for more
you 45 minutes. It seems that the checkout people know everyone and just have to share with you the story about their new, even though it's used, double wide trailer. "I got me some niiice cinder blocks under thar 'fer support..." OK, not all talk about their double wide. There are more Bubbas here than anywhere in the world. Why would anyone call the kid Bubba? Hell, even some women are called Bubba!!I guess it's just a Southern thing.
The weather is usually 10-15 degrees warmer than Jersey and snow is almost non existent. Flurries in the forecast? Uh-oh, better hurry up and load up on groceries.
Tennessee is a beautiful place to live though. People are genuinely friendlier here and they wave with their whole hand, not just one finger like in Jersey. The best thing here is NO TOLL ROADS!!
I have been blessed so far in life with my family, job, friends and health.
