Michael's Story

Life I worked in Connecticut for 2.5 years after I graduated from college and then came back to work in Norwood in summer of 1976 and worked at Northrop. After that I worked for Data general for 10 years and Digital Equipment for 2. I worked for Raytheon for 5 years and now at my present job for 11 years. My field is Electrical Engineering (25 years in power electronics). I am married with two great kids and a great wife. My son is a junior in college. My daughter will be going to college in the fall as a freshman. My son was born premature and developed a 90% hearing loss. Even with this loss he has maintained almost a 4.0 average in college. He will be graduating with a BS in Electrical and computer engineering. I suspect he will continue with graduate school. During the summer he teaches at a camp. If you were to meet him you would not know that he is deaf, he can talk clearly and carry on a good conversation. It is a testimony to his intellect and his mother hard work. He has a very dry sense of humor and enjoys poking fun at me and debating with who ever is fool hardy enough. He graduated from Norwood High. My daughter has gotten my love of hockey and her mothers sides love of music. She also attended Norwood High and was in the Jazz band for 2 years. She started skating just before freshman year. I enjoyed teaching her every thing I know and watching her grow as a player and a person. She attend first line status in the Girls Hockey team by junior year. In her senior year she became a defensemen and captain of the team. She has developed into a very fine skater and player, enough so that she will be playing at URI in the fall on there women's club team (ranked 4 the in the U.S.). I have always thought that hockey was one of the greatest team sports. I have taught her always to look up and pass up. Setting up the play is as much fun as getting the goal. This year the team made it into the MIAA play offs winning their first game. I still play with a group at lunch just for fun. I have had the pleasure of meeting and playing with some of the best hockey players of my era. Steve Arnold who played for U. of Lowell comes and still keeps the young guys on their toes. I have continued with my education getting my masters in EE in 2001 from WPI. I did this to stay fresh and be able to stay in engineering. However I must say that the changes ...Expand for more
that are going on may mean a change in the future. I also became a PADI dive instructor. This is my third passion, Hockey, diving and skiing. The skiing has taken a back seat for a while due to the cost of college. My wife skies and is a warm water diver. To be sure I think she does it just for me. Before we got married I bought her a dive course and informed her that if she did not pass she would have to walk up the aisle with a sign that informed all that she is not certified. I can run fast. Her check out dive was a week before our wedding at a place called Cathedral Rocks and as the name implies it is tough getting in and out. Her instructors said that she was spunky. Well we have been diving together and all but I think that she would just as soon hold hands and walk the beach. She likes going to plays and movies. She is a great teacher, mom and wife. My friends and I have continued to dive some of the most interesting dives that we have done are the wreak of the Chester Polling just out side of Glouster harbor and Halfway rock. I think that this summer (2005) my daughter will learn to dive. It will be the last experience we will share before she goes to college. She has earned her open water certification this summer. While I was on vacation we went to back beach in Rockport where I did her check out dives. Now she is in college and I hope to travel to Snug harbor RI. with her to dive the jetty wall. My son is in Limerick Ireland doing a senior project. I think it is a great experience. It is now 2/28/2008 my son is working doing firmware at APC we commute to work together. He likes his job. His sister Amanda is a junior at URI she has three more years to go. 6/25/2009 Amanda has finished her 4th year at URI. She is studying to get her PharmD, she has 2 more years to go. She left the hockey team after her 3rd year. Her course work had gotten to tough. She had a great experience traveling throughout the country. She now runs and gets a game in with my friends and I when she has a moment. My son is continuing to work as a firmware engineer, dated a women from WPI and has started some graduate studies. My wife and I have enjoyed watching son and daughter grow to fine young adults. We still go to Bermuda and dive together, a little skiing. I enjoy the hockey but I am slowing down, I think. I also enjoy helping people learn to dive.
