Michael's Story

Have been married to Marilyn (Beers) for 41 years. We have 2 daughters, Eve and Erin. Eve has 2 children making them our grandchildren (Ashley and Adam). Both daughters are married. Eve lives in Colfax, Ca. and Erin in Tucson, Ar. Marilyn and I have been to 41 states and hope to get to the rest before the sun sets. We have lived in Redwood City, Ca., San Carlos, Ca., Nashville, Tn. and South Bend, In. We are both big Notre Dame fans as are our daughters. We go to every game at ND and many on the road. I coached and taught school until 1997. In 1998 I started my own business. It was very successful. I sold it in 2009 and retired. I still officiate high school football, basketball and baseball just to keep busy. Still love Jerry Lee Lewis concerts (47 to date) and 49er football (thank God for DirectV NFL Sunday ticket). Love finding old Roosevelt Elementary, Goodwin Jr. High and Sequoia friends and finding out what they are up to. Still have lunch with former Goodwin teachers (Mr. Maynard, 7th grade science and Mrs. Kendall, 8th grade home room). Both are 82 and going great. This is my August 2010 update. More to come. This is my April 26th 2012 (my birthday) update: Our youngest daughter, Erin (35) is finally going to have a baby. Her first. Add number 48 to the list, saw Jerry Lee in Chicago in November. He was great as usual. One of my oldest friends, Patty Mullins, is finally getting her grand child. I believe due today. Had a great time at my 50th class reunion. Had fun with Patty, Linda W., Linda S., Jimmy K., Stan D. amoung others. Dee E., Rich E., and Joan C. and Bruce C. looked great (they must eat well). Disappointed Frank K. didn't show or Frank B too. Our grandson, Adam, graduates from high school in June. Where has all the time gone? Spent time last month with Mr. Maynard and Mrs. Kendall. We had a great time. They are now 84. If any of you want to catch up with them just let me know and I will get you their numbers. They love seeing old students. Mrs. K just got back from a month long trip to China. A remarkable lady. Damn fumbles! niners could have been in their 6th super bowl. Oh well there is always next year. Stay in touch. Go Cherokees! January 15, 2013 (update) Just got back from Miami. Went to the BCS football game unfortunatally my Fighting Irish didn't fight so well but we still got there. Looks like the 49ers are on their way to another Super Bowl. Just have to beat Atlanta. As I mentioned in my last update our youngest daughter, Erin, did have her 1st child. He was 10 lbs 20 in and both mom and son did well. He was born in August. Patty Mullins had a granddaughter and she has a ball with her and her 95 year old mother. The 3 of them spend most days together. Will this is the year most of us from the class of 61 turn 70. I know some of you already have. Didn't expect to live this long but it has been some ride. Good, Bad and Ugly. It was nice talking with Sandra N and Jmmy K this past year. They have both had serious health issues over the past few years but seem to be hanging in there. It was great to hear from Mike Q. He is still as funny as ever and seems to be doing well. Well enough for now. Looking forward to hearing from all of you again soon. In closing it might make som...Expand for more
e of you feel good to know that Little Richard, Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, The Everly Brothers and the best rock n roller of all tme Jerry Lee Lewis are all still alive. Cherokees forever. April 2013 update: As 70 creeps up on most of us (this month for me) I can only wish time would slow down just a little but it doesn't. Marilyn and I have been out to Portland to see our new grandson, now almost 7 months old, 3 time since his birth. We are heading out there again in 2 weeks to see him and Erin again. He is a trip. Talked to Bobby Plant (Mt. Carmel and Serra), Mike Quirk, Patty Mullins and linda Winters resently and they all seem to be doing well. Heard that Frank Kane moved from New Mexico to Scottsdale, Arizona this past year. Those Niners sure blew that Super Bowl but at least they got there. Have been refereeing lots of basketball tournaments since the start of March (56 games so far and 16 or 18 this coming week). I hope all of you former Cherokee"s are as healthy as can be expected and continue to put those birthdays behind you. Look forward to hearing from some of you soon. Cherokee's forever! Here I am pushing 73 and doing alright. Marilyn and I are getting close to our 46th wedding anniversary that most of our friends said wouldn't last. 2015 has been an interesting year. We still live in South Bend, In. but have an apartment in San Carlos and have been traveling back and forth quite a bit this year. Have had great visits with Jimmy Kokesh, Mike Quirk, Fred Storey, Patty Mullins, Bobby Plant, Bob Gooreebeck, Gary (the Record Man) Saxson, John Cantaneo, Leslie Lawton and others. Still see Mr Maynard and Mrs. Kendall (88ish) each time I come to town. I sure hope that someone takes the hand off from Dee Eva (Miss Sequoia Organizer) and puts something together for our 55th anniversary of our class of 61. The 50th was fantastic. It would be a shame to not have something for 55. Something simple is all we need. Getting ready for football season to start. Big Notre Dame and 49er fan. Less than 2 weeks. Will that is it for now. Hope to see or hear from some of you down the road. Cherokee for life Will for anyone that is interested here is my brief update. It is late August 2018 and football is in the air. Marilyn and I are closing in on 49 years. Our youngest daughter, Erin, has blessed us with our forth grandchild. Devin, born in October 2017. Went to the Winery in Saratoga, Calif. August 11th and saw Jerry Lee Lewis for my 50th time. Marilyn and were joined by an old Sequoia High freshman classmate Rich Simrin. It was a great show. As everyone probably knows we lost a few of our Rock n Roll hero's since my last update. Fats Domino, Chuck Berry and Don Everly from the Everly Brothers all passed. That leaves us with just Jerry Lee and Little Richard. On a more upbeat note. All of you Goodwin School graduates will be happy to know that teachers, Mrs. Kendall and Mr. Maynard.are still going strong. Both hit 90 this year. I saw them both in August and they were doing great. Mr. Maynard had total knee replacement for his right knee and came through the surgery with flying colors. That's all for now. Being 75 isn't as bad as I thought it would be. Go Cherokees.

Today marks our 49th anniversary. Through the good and bad, the happy and sad, the ups and downs and the rich and the poor we are still going strong. I thank God for giving us the strength to persevere. ❤️
