Michael's Story

i'm called mike bauer now ( after my real father ) and i ran off after graduation and was in the air force for two weeks...we got an amicable divorce -- me with an honorable, and them with no-mo-weirdo in our elite squadron. it happened and i was free -- i only went in because my rimbaud psycho-anal mom made enlistment a condition for living downtown with this old guy ( ha. 26 year old. ) she didn't actually admit to herself what was going down ( me ) with this guy, but didn't fight it. anyway, i did my part, but air force was pretty psycho for me... kind of like gym class at m.m. but with more adults baiting me. so, anyway, i went off to monterey after that and fell in with beats. 1964, still. then, i hooked up with a friend's family and lived in mill valley for a half year, half year at marin J.C... 'college of marin' studying classical music composition. after that time in marin, things started to get interesting. all i want to say right now, is that i never was in jail and never got addicted, and that i hate progressive or infantile rock and that i've got twelve black and white photos in the j. paul getty museum in LA. also, i sort of published a few poems too, but everybody writes poetry. got a BA in art history and an MA in art photography from humboldt state u., up in humboldt. probably, the only kid at HSU to not smoke dope while i was there... had been there and done that in cambridge, mass... where i'd got into a pre-enrollment program at harvard and there were many very amazing and dull druggy students. mostly, it was the first time i could talk with people my age on more than one or two levels. harvard was really good for me. all i want to say now, is that my daughter is 40, that i've been married to women twice, and that my first wife was a transactional middle-class version of my mom, and that my second wife, after 25 years together, divorced for 11 years now, and she and i are really pretty good friends. ( on the telephone. if we're even in the same zip code at the same time, there's an argument. ) like women as best friend, love for fun, the way straight guys get it on with each other when they're goofy, always. never had a real boy friend, and that's kind of sad and now i'm too old to want to share the same air with anyone, much less a lover. my MA in art was in photo, but i'd been a painter up till my junior year in college, and now i've been trying to find that painter again. working on painting pretty much exclusively for the last 10 years. have a little condo, narrow little bed and no room for even an easy chair, much less a sofa and s...Expand for more
tupid dining room table -- got a heavy steel door i use on trestles as my work table. use a microwave, make coffee in an espresso machine -- don't use my dishwasher, sold my car long ago. keep a small energy footprint and my only friends are acquaintances -- people working in the market or at the coffee house. still vote liberal democrat, so ciao san diego. looking for freedom -- would be libertairian if libertarian wasn't so low IQ... under 150 is retard when it comes to consciousness. it doesn't take IQ to be a liberal, just a heart. very much into trains and railroads -- systems of supply and demand. like to make model routes where some funky industrial area needs deadly chemicals to make kid's widgets. droll world. kind of read and write french, if anyone's into keeping up with their french. i'm lazy and need challenges like that. went to germany and austria ( vienna ) last year ( 2014). went there just to man up to germans -- family is texas german from the mid-19th century. hitler time kind of made me ashamed to be german. trip to germany kind of clued me why that wasn't such a bad attitude on my part after all. lots of art though -- no music, i was there in the wrong season. next time, probably back to italy and florence. was also in france in the '80's -- also greece, spain, england and israel, egypt and... humm, that's it i think. oh, yeah, netherlands, which i liked very much -- amsterdam and then big art museum. rembrandt and expressionists. home alone today on thanksgiving, which is not as bad as it sounds -- everyone i know just drinks, which makes them easier to be around, but also is sort of limiting -- and, i don't do drugs -- even in portland i don't smoke dope at all... last toke, i was 32, and that was too old for wonky. did do acid in the 60's. three trips with harvard roommate paul. very much a funnel into being what i am. what i am is someone who really likes and lives inside music, and acid didn't keep me. remember some friends from m.m. still -- beth, of course - a real and good person who i was too emo to be a good friend to. and, danny, who i had a most severe crush on. and, donna, whom i owe so much to and was also not a good friend to after all. i blame it on emo and my queer thing -- it was really -- still is for kids -- hard to reconcile such oddness with so much that seemed to hate me. and, tim -- only friend -- male friend -- who really didn't worry about it and still wanted to just hang out with me. very grateful to the few people i could really not be afraid of or really share some at least part of my life with at m.m..
