Michael Kellogg:  

I think my best profile is the sports page article on the Long Beach press telegram in 1997. It was authored by Doug Krikorian, a sportswriter, recognized throughout the United States. The title of the article was “Kellogg, A Man for All Seasons.” I feel that I have been blessed throughout my whole life not only in what I have been able to do but also those that I have met along the way. That includes the students and some faculty at both south and west high school in Torrance California. I still remember meeting with Joe Rocher the principal of the high school, with his white pants, green sports coat, green tie and unique white shoes. It was my second job interview after leaving the American and Canadian football league, playing for the Oakland Raiders, the Denver Broncos and Cincinnati Bengals and the Hamilton tiger cats and the 14 surgeries that occur during and after my playing days. The chance meeting with Don Jackman, rerouted my life from then to the present. The head of the department didn’t know what assignment they would offer me—what teaching position or coaching position given my background. Don Jackman was teaching an elective--criminal law and criminal procedure. He simply said to me “offer to teach my elective with me. You teach criminal law and I’ll teach criminal procedure. Then, the next semester you teach criminal procedure and I’ll teach criminal law.” The influence of that assignment determines my future for the next 47+ years after teaching.
