Michael's Story
Life
I am currently a Professor of Law and the Director of the Intellectual Property, Technology, and Media Law Program at Georgia State University in Atlanta, where I teach Copyright Law, Trademark Law, Patent Law, Art & Entertainment Law, and Computer Law.
In the Fall of 2005, I will be a Fulbright Scholar at the Intellectual Property Rights University Center in Helsinki, Finland. In the past, I have been a visiting scholar or visiting professor at the University of Amsterdam, the University of Warsaw, and the University of Linz.
After I went back to school for a law degree at Penn, I practiced law with in Manhattan (with Cravath Swaine & Moore and Skadden Arps) until I saw the light and decided to join academia.
I have not played in rock bands for days, but I miss those old days.
I am married. No childeren. My wife, who works at Emory Univ., and I have been lucky in having had the opportunity to do a lot of travalling. We usually spend at least several weeks each summer in Europe.
Life in Atlanta is very strange. I will never get used to the homogeneity of modern American "culture." It is all shopping m...Expand for more
alls, strip malls, chain stores, fast food places, parking lots and strip clubs. After living in a civilized, educated, and cultured place like New York, this place is like another planet. It feels more foreign to me than Paris, Vienna, or Berlin.
Why did we not have a 30th reunion?
My best to all,
Michael
College
Most of my time at Penn State was spent as lead guitar player and "front man" in rock bands. My band "Mudshark" was quite popular, and far more people than than those with whom I was personally acquainted knew, or knew of, me as "Michael Mudshark."
I have almost nothing positive to say about the academics at Penn State, with the exception of Ms.Chung's Mandarin Chinese classes. and Dr, Goldshmidt's History classes. Public high school in Kingston, Pennsylvania, was far more challenging and interesting, and that is not saying much. If one attended class, and did not have a flat EEG, one could easily get an A in a course.
State College was a great place to live. I had a blast. Wowever, by going to Penn State and not a more challenging academic institution, I feel that I was cheated out of a real education.
