Michael's Story

My schools include Johnson High School. I later attended Century College, Northwestern Institute, and lucky enough to have attended training with the F.B.I. at Quantico Virginia. After graduatuing I must admit, I was ill prepared for post high school life. I immediately went to work at a local car dealership, as I was always handy with cars. I stayed in that vocation way too long, it payed the bills but left me unfulfilled. In 1975 I married "the girl next door". I married Sheila Sager after knowing her most of my life and going through all of the boy/girl phases. We bought a modest home on Hawthorne Ave. In 1978 I joined the St Paul Police reserves after seeing an ad in the Pioneer Press to join and make your neighborhood a safer place and included free CPR training. This (cpr) was of key importance for me as my wife and I were expecting our first child and I wanted to know how to properly perform cpr. I am the oldest of nine children, 4 boys, 5 girls. As very young children we bounced around from rental homes, and apartments. Ultimately we settled into McDonough Housing, a fact I was alway ashamed to admit back then. I remember when asked where I lived, I always said "down by 35E and Wheelock Pkwy". Ironically, I now am very proud of it. After a few years of doing the police reserve thing, I knew I had found my calling. I went back to school. Balancing working days, college classes at night and two young children, it was labor intensive, but oh so worth it. I graduated from college in June 1986, then attended a mandatory police skills course in the fall of 1986. In 1987 I accepted a job offer and was sworn in as a Deputy Sheriff with Anoka County, Mn. I worked there for 24+ years before accepting an early retirement incentive o...Expand for more
ffer. That retirement lasted a few boring months. I tried my hand at being a security guard, but that just wasn't for me. I returned to law enforcement working part time hours, while maintaining my full time license. I look forward to every shift with as much excitement as I did 28 years ago. My experiences are vast and rewarding. I did a three year undercover assignment while on loan to the FBI and traveled all over the U.S. in that capacity. I have made so many wonderful friends over the years, lost more than I care to remember, but would not change it for anything. My wife blessed me with two beautiful children, a son and a daughter. The next blessings are my grandchildren, a handsome grandson, and a perfectly beautiful granddaughter. Sadly, my marriage faltered and in 1994 we divorced. Long story and this is not the right venue for that. I stayed in our east side home and raised our children after the divorce. Sadly Sheila passed away in November of 2014. For those that might remember her it was unexpected, and a tragedy. Although I consider myself a life long east sider, in 2001 I bought a few acres up in Isanti County and built a home on the banks of the Rum River. My little slice of heaven. Lately I have been increasingly nostalgic thinking about my school days, and classmates. I visit the east side often, loving lunch or supper at Romolo's or Yarusso's. I fill my off time with my favorite hobbies, travel, motorcycling, snowmobiling, photography, and concerts. I am blessed to have travelled the world over, yet my bucket list remains long. The good lord willing, I will continue to chip away at that list. I'd love to reconnect with so many of my long lost friends. If you read this, thanks!!!! Stay Healthy and happy!!! Mike
