It took five years to get my BS degree since I changed my major at the end of the first year and none of the courses I had taken that year applied to the new degree. I still do not know how I was able to work 40 hours a week and carry 18 hours each semester! The ink was barely dry on my diploma when the company I had been working for while going to college promoted me and moved me to the facility in Chicago. Madelyn (Smith) and I had stayed in touch and we were married in 1978. Unfortunately, I screwed up and she divorced me two years later. In 1981 I learned that the company that I had worked for the past ten years was grooming me for a position at their headquarters in Syracuse, New York. After having failed Madelyn and already suffering from being half way across the country from family in Southern California, I decided that I did not want to end up in Syracuse and turned in my resignation. I moved back to Southern California in February and was lucky to meet Patricia that October. My family wondered why I only seemed to fall in love with women whose last name was Smith. We had our first date before Thanksgiving, I proposed before Christmas and we were married the following June. That was 36 years ago and we are still celebrating our love.
