Michael's Story

Went to East Jr High Then Blue Hills, The US Army 1970 till 93, Then retired just outside Fort Devens. Been Married since 73, I have two Girls, no grandchildren as yet... Got two degrees from NHTC for Bldg Const Tech and one for HVAC/R. Started to work for Empire Engineering in Canton since 96. Work as an HVACR technitian. Lived in Columbia, SC, West Point , NY, South Korea, Anchorage, AK, Flein and Heilbronn, West Germany, Junction City, KS, Ft Leonardwood, MO... even spent a few months in the Mojave desert around 88. Things I remember about Lakeside. Mrs Flaratey the principal was actually a highschool friend of my mothers although my Mom died when I was only 9. Everyone feared her like the school Mar in the Movie Matilda. I had Mrs Wilson in first grade she was nice but had to have been in her late 70's. Mrs Lampman for 2nd, she was real nice I think she lived on the corner of acorn street and Parkside. 3rd I had Mrs Salter, she would always drag me into the hallway to pull up my zipper...4th I had Mrs Scott, she was very kind and wicked tall. 5th I had Mrs FRench, she got everyone interested in science, I remember she had us go in the woods and find something of interest. I brought back something called a Jack in the Pauper, She said it was illegal to pick...that made it even more interesting, Then in 6th I had the new male teacher MR Barden, nothing very special...All the Boys knew one Math Teacher... Mrs Moore from Littlerock AK. She had a hot bod she wasn't afraid to show with jet b...Expand for more
lack hair and a DA style cut. She had to have been about 23 or so... . My next door neighbor was MRS Newton a math taecher. We all despised her for some reason, mainly I think because she was my neighbor and got away with nothing. I have a younger brother Joe and an older brother Kevin. I know lots of people that are not on this sight...I remember field day, and selling tickets, and the grab bags and fire truck ride inside the courtyard of the two wings.and Fire Prevention Day with Smokey the Bear where you would get a badge. Class Valentines Day. I remember in about 1958 or 59 a helicopter landed in the minor leage field, they were just building the Southshore Plaza. Stop&Shop, Kresgees and Filenes were the first ones there, The smoke shop came in a bit later. The Disc shop was a record store. The land between the school and the plaza where the Jordan Marsh parking lot is was the sand pits with huge gold fish. The Braintree Dam had a Tarzan swing over by the gatehouse usually built from the lakeside flagpole rope. We could catch lots of Hornpout and large pickerel there. I took a picture of the dam in 1975 after it rained, the shame was several kids drown there every summer. The older kids used it for a drinking area. There were vine trees there ans wild grapes you could smell while walking by. Mrs Barry was in charge of the Patrols. These were 6th graders that were in charge of kids crossing the street. In those days we all walked to school, even the 5 year olds... how times have changed.
