Michael's Story

School What can I say other than Band was my passion. For me it was almost a second family. I still remember Chief's (Mr. Moody) admonishments that we sounded like potatoes without "salt" during early week rehearsals adding if we didn't get it right he would make us march with music. AND the band to the south never marched with music. Chief once asked me why I was in band. It wasn't a challenge but a question that forced me to look inward. He already knew the answer that I could not come up with then. And then there was Mr. B (N. P. Baggerly); all smooth and style. Emeril must have learned how to kick it up a notch from Mr. B! I know you remember the spin turns and flash we had during parades (T-Bones "rowing" us down the street). Man, we were good. Had my Dad not been transferred to Atlanta in my senior year, I would have gone to U of F and probably would have gone on to teach music in high school. But that did not happen. After graduating from a war zone called Avondale High school I went on to Emory (at Oxford, I thought I wanted to be a Doctor), Ga Tech and eventually Southern Tech (they changed their name after I graduated, I wonder if they were trying to tell me something). That is when the love of my life and I married back in '76. I then did a short stand with Pillsbury in New Albany, Indiana. just in time for the worst winter on record and promised the Lord if he would take us back to Ga we would NEVER move north again. That is when I got a job with Miller Brewing in Albany Ga and ten years later, after a couple promotions, was promoted to Corporate Eng in Milwaukee, WI (so much for never going n...Expand for more
orth again) where we lived for 17 winters. We retired from Miller in 2003 and moved SE Ga working as a Technical Services Manager for Wayne Farms; (a business to business concern), I was transferred to Alabama and joined Wal-Mart as a Maintenance Manager. We bought our retirement home when we were transferred here. Now that I am retired, I do some volunteer work, fool around in the yard, and do stand up comedy on the dock for the ducks and the fish.. Unless the Lord has other plans, we do not intend to move again. Here we are and here we will stay. But then, our daughter, her husband and our grand daughter are living in S Carolina, so who knows, there may yet be another move. Along the way, we had two beautiful children; our son is an IT wizard (played Sax in HS) and our daughter is a Psychiatrist practicing in in SC. (played clarinet and bassoon in HS and college). She once remarked that she always knew I was crazy, and now she can certify it, lol. WE have done a little travel over the years that included Bucharest, Romania; Bahamas, Cancun; Beliez, Denver, Savanah, Ga, Montreal, Fulton, NY, Eden,NC, Disney World, St. Simons, Ga., Charleston, NC. Altus, Ok, Irwindale, Ca, Trenton, Oh, San Ft. Worth & Antinio, Tx., Louisivlle, Ky, Eau Gallie, Panama City, Ft Walton, Key West, St Augustine, Hudson, Marcos Island, & Destin Fla, Seattle WA, and a couple other places My newest passion (15 years or so) is Multi media and working with our praise team at church... But that, as they say, is another story. Feel free to drop a line and if there is any way, lets try to make a EGHS 50th reunion. It should be fun.
