Michael's Story
Life
I was an Army Brat growing up attending many different grade schools. During those early years from 1947 to the end of 1950 I attended 1st through 4th grade in a one room school in Germany with the same teacher. Most of that time I was the only one in my grade. That teacher was also teaching 1st to 8th grades. I think the most students she had at one time for the whole school may have been 15. My Dad was part of the U.S. occupying forces in southern Germany following World War II. On returning to th U.S.,I attended different schools in Wisconsin and Virginia. My first 2 years of high school I attended Fort Knox High School and my last two years was at Valley High School outside of Louisville Ky. I attended a number of Universities over the years starting with Western Kentucky and ending at St.Leo with a BA in History.
My Spouse
Met my wife (Shirley; aka:Judy, Woodcock) at Valley High School. We were classmates. We got married in July 1963. She followed me to the Philippines, Okinawa, Germany and other stateside assignments. She always took great care of the family where ever we were stationed. While working here in California, she went back to school and completed her BA at San Jose State University. She retired from Lockheed Martin Missiles and Satellite Operations company in California the end of May 2004. She now stays busy in local co...Expand for more
mmunity activities.
My Kids
We had two boys who have grown up to be fine young men. My youngest has provided us with 4 grandchildren who are a joy to watch grow up.
My Job
I entered the Army the end of Aug 1961 and spent 20 years in US Army Security Agency/Military Intelligence and retired in Sep 1981. During that 20 year I had assignments both in the far east (which included Vietnam) and Europe. In addition It seem like I was always going to some sort of army training or school. That training and different assignments/experiences provided me with a working back ground that proved valuable in the future years. After retirement from the Army which had included various out of the mainstream assignments, I went to work for Lockheed Martin Missiles and Satellite Operations company in California as a systems engineer. The jobs with Lockheed also required travel both overseas and within the United States. I retired from Lockheed Martin the end of Oct 2003. I have been fortunate that the jobs that I have had both in the Army as well as working at Lockheed, although different and very demanding at times, have been for the most part both fun and exciting. In looking back to my graduating from high school I could not have imagined the path my life has taken. I am looking forward to enjoying my final retirement. Life has been good to both my wife and myself.
