Michael's Story

Hello All. I want to share with you the greatest story ever told. No, it's not about "religion" or trying to earn you way to a better place when we all do our final graduation. :) It's about Jesus Christ. So, some of you knew me perhaps as a bit of a class clown, kind of always getting into some kind of disturbance or trouble. Well, that can happen when your parents aren't really fully engaged in your life. Trust me, I am NOT a victim. Nor do I ever blame my parents for anything. I loved them dearly and they have both went on to heaven in the last 15 years. I grew up a Catholic but never really got into all the ritualism and rules. But I do love my Catholic brothers and sisters. Wonderful people. So I left Fridley and went on to UofM for a short stint before departing Minnesota and moving to the south. I LOVE the south. First was Texas for 8 years, then Florida for around 20 years. Got remarried to my love today and moved to where she lived, Birmingham, Alabama. We now reside today in probably the greatest middle sized city in America - Nashville, Tennessee. What a fantastic place to live. Plus, and the biggest plus people, is NO STATE INCOME TAX. That's right. Why do you think everyone flees the high tax blue states to the south like Texas, Florida, and Tennessee. Look at that State of Minnesota line on your next payroll stub. BTW- Mine in Tennessee says $0. That right, zero!! So what are y'all waiting for? It's a pay increase, a much better economy, wonderful friendly people in the South, and very mild winters with a couple of light snows. OK, so see you there. I have two questions to ask you. 1) If you were to die today do you know for sure that you're going to heaven? 2) If so and you were to stand before God and he were to ask you "Why should I let you into My Heaven?" What would you say? Perhaps you might say you've lead a good life, have tried to be as nice as you can to people, given money to charity, brought up nice children, took care of your Mom or Dad, or perhaps you haven't robbed any banks or done much bad stuff. That's all well and good. However, none of that has absolutely anything to do with going to heaven. So I'll make this short and succinct out of love and respect for anyone reading this: Heaven is a FREE gift. It is not earned and it is not deserved. The bible says "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God". Romans 3:23 So hmmmmm, if all have sinned and fall short of God's glory how do we obtain this "Free Gift of Eternal Life" you may say. It's soooo easy my friends. So here we go (all good I promise): 1) Jesus said "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6) Okay, yes that what HE said. HE said he is the ONLY way to Heaven and to The Father in Heaven. Again, I didn't say that, HE (Jesus) said that. 2) Then he said "… unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." (John 3:3) Yes, one must become a born again person in Christ to see the kingdom of God when your time comes. Again, that is what Jesus said. So that gets us to the conclusion. (See, that was short) I am confident that you know about Jesus dying on the Cross. Right? And probably most of you know about the 3 crosses? If you don't, the bible says in Luke the 23 chapter that 2 thieves were condemned to die by being crucified at the exact same time as Jesus. One on either side of him. So....3 crosses. They both scoffed at Jesus, mocked him, and said some terrible things to him. But do you know that of everyone in the Bible, all the people ever named, thousands and thousands of names and genealogies, God had a calling on the man on the 3rd cross. We never knew his name. We don't know if he ever did any good works, ever. He never knew about Jesus most likely...no TV preachers back then. So guess what? Out of all of the characters good and bad and different in the entire bible from Genesis through Revelation, God gave the man on the 3rd cross more promise and more assurance that he was going to heaven than anyone in the bible? Why? No good works, no nothing except skepticism and insults hurled at Jesus. But something happened. As he was about to suffocate from being crucified he changed his mind in the last minutes of his life, and based on what was happening around him, he had a change of heart and all he did was one thing. Just one thing that granted him more promise and more guarantee that he was going to heaven than anyone in the bible. So what was it....I know you're dying to ask that. So let me tell you. All he did, ALL he did, was he had a change of heart and looked at Jesus sincerely and said : 3) “Lord, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” And Jesus said to him, …"today you will be with me in Paradise.” (Luke 23:42-43) So God gave more promise and more guarantee to the guy that deserved it the least in the bible just so when YOU read this (Right Now) you'll know that there is nothing you've ever done that God wont' forgive you for. But YOU have to take the next step. What is the next step? Here's what the bible says to do next. YOU have to step out of your comfort zone and simply follow this biblical passage (this is SO easy folks, really): 3A The bible says “…if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9) That's it! That all you need to do (with a contrite heart and meaning it mind you). You can't just robot talk your way into heaven. It has to come from the heart. A one on one with God. Pour it out to Him and He will grant you that wish and desire for eternal life in Christ. Here is all you need to do (again with an open heart and believing in what you are praying, sincerely): Prayer the Prayer of Eternal Salvation similar to this (doesn't have to be exactly but you could do this word for word if you want): Lord Jesus, come into my life and be my Savior and Lord. Forgive me of all my sins. I turn over my life to you Jesus. I believe you are the Son of God. I believe God raised you from the dead. I will follow you all the days of my life. I trust in you alon...Expand for more
e for my salvation. Lead me and guide me on the paths of righteousness for your namesake. In the name of Jesus. Amen. AND THAT'S IT PEOPLE! If you prayed that prayer and you truly meant it before God and perhaps with other people like friends or family members around, that makes it even better. But it's not a requirement. Hey, guess what? Attending church is NOT mandatory to go to Heaven either. In fact, if perhaps you never went to a church you could still be saved and go to Heaven based on faith alone in Christ. The bible says several wonderful things about where you may be right now. Again, most of you probably don't know me. That's quite alright. But God knows YOU. He knows the number of hairs on your head, He knows all of your thoughts, desires, and yes your sins too. But when you accept Christ as your Savior and Lord you now have direct access to God through the Holy Spirit for forgiveness of sins and to start each day anew. The bible says it ALL about Faith in Jesus ALONE as your Savior. I know that may be tough for some of our Catholic brothers and sisters because of the whole kind of "guilt" thing (I know, as I was brought up a Catholic my friends). Here's what the Bible says about faith alone as the qualification for entrance into Heaven: For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9 Read that? "NOT BY WORKS!!!! What the Apostle Paul is saying there is that it's not that we are to avoid good works and live like the devil because we've accepted Christ. Absolutely NOT. What it means is that we do good works out of appreciation for Jesus dying for us on the Cross in our place for the sins of all mankind. Of course we are to do good works, help others, give generously of our time and resources, love our neighbor as ourselves, and yes, go to church when we can, take care of those around us, be pleasant as much as possible, don't be a negative Nellie always complaining and being a victim. That is NOT from God. God is all about us living life abundantly to the fullest. So....now that one prays to receive Jesus into their heart with prayer there are some calls to action to live victoriously: 1) Get a study bible from Lifeway Christian or another good Christian bookstore. I recommend the ESV Study Bible or the New King James Study Bible. Please.....no cult stuff like Mormanism, Jehovah's Witnesses, Scientology, or liberal Christianity that says anything goes and that God doesn't care about sin. Oh yes, God does care!! So take it upon yourself, you and God, to spend a simple 5-10 minutes every morning starting in Matthew Chapter 1 in the New Testament and reach just a single chapter a day. Hey c'mon now. We've all got 5 or 10 minutes we could give to the word of God and learning His ways. So once you develop that very simple habit particularly now that you have prayed the prayer to receive Jesus as your Savior, you know what will happen? The scales (so to speak) are removed from your eyes and you are reborn as a new creature in Christ!!! You will be amazed at what the bible is all about. Words and events will leap off the page and you will truly be stunned and blown away by how much Jesus loves you and the price He paid for you and all of us. You know HE DECIDED to come down to earth, and be horribly and viciously crucified to pay the price for sin once and for all forever for all of us. But that free gift, again absolutely free, means nothing if you do not reach out and take it. Yes, take it and grab on to eternal life in Christ. It is a wonderful, joyous, rewarding, and amazing life every day with Jesus in your heart and the Holy Spirit rebuilding you from the ground up. It is a journey and a path don't mistake that. BUT, it truly is our only choice. There are no other gods that can save us. God the Father, God The Son, and God The Holy Spirit are and always have been the only way to receive entrance to heaven since the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus. So now that you're on your way, what do you do next? Find a great solid bible believing church in your area that you can attend or be a part of. How do you find one, well, you need to test the waters. And don't worry about the whole Catholic, Baptist, Presbyterian, Lutheran, Church of Christ, Methodist, and so forth - denominations. Man split up the original early church into denominations. Denominations can divide us but they can be a great place to worship also. After all my years of getting saved in a full gospel church, then attending First Baptist in Houston, TX, then on to Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, I ended up at a wonderful non-denomination church called Calvary Chapel in Ft. Lauderdale. They great part about Calvary is that they don't ask you to join and become a member and the don't ask for money. Which are typically the two biggest complaints about churches, right? Love Calvary Chapel. There are actually over 500 of them around the world. I just happened to land on and love the one in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. So if you have no other church home come and visit live online on Sundays. There are I think 4 services now live from their 20,000 member church. That BTW started with just 4 people back in 1984. Just visit: calvaryftl.com and you'll see. In fact, if your curious (which I hope you are) you can visit and go back to any service over the last number of years from their online service library. Great Christian worship music and most of all solid, true, biblically based and sound teaching from the word of God. I love it and I know you will too. If by chance my friend you would like to talk more about accepting Christ as your Savior please feel free to reach out to me. I would love to hear from any of your searching, on the edge, ready to commit, or wanting to learn more. You can write me back on Classmates email system. Love Always in Christ, Michael Nalepka Philippians 1:21 For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. Oh, BTW, any good you might see in me only comes from Jesus Christ. The author and perfecter of our faith. :)
