Michael's Story

Michael is from Warwick, Rhode Island. Michael's schools include Warwick Veterans Memorial High School. Michael later attended Worcester Polytechnic. Michael works(ed) at Ibm. More about Michael:"I grew up in Warwick RI when it was a rural suburb of Providence RI. I went to Norwood elementry school, then got bused to Pontiac Elementry and finally finished elementry school at the new Rhodes school. Then on to Aldrich Junior High where I met my wife Patricia Salerno in the 9th grade. We dated all through High School, Warwick Veterans Memorial, and college, Worcester Polytecnic Institute in Worcester Mass. We got married between my junior and senior years in college. All through school, I participated in sports both in local community leagues, CYO and school. I played football, basketball & baseball since I was 11. I won some sports awards including being picked for the all New England CYO basketball team. After College, I was hired on at IBM in Kingston NY where I spent 36 years as a software developer and manager. I had various technical jobs in software design, development and service as well a variety of management positions from project level all the way to Program Director for the development of the Java Product for IBM's high end operating System on their mainframe systems. The latter job consisted of managing a large, international development, test and support team in several different countries and US cities. During my years at IBM, I received numerous technical and management awards for which I am proud. After college I continued to enjoy numerous sports, playing tag football, softball, tennis and spending the winters skiing at many local ski areas. I got to enjoy travel...Expand for more
ing around the country on business, taking extra time to enjoy the various offerings of the various cities I visited including skiing out west and in Europe. IBM gave me the opportunity to take my family to live in Holland for 6 months in Jan., of 1978. We had a wonderful time traveling all over Europe highlighted by the trip to our heritage country, Italy. My parents got to come to visit and joined us on that trip. I retired in June of 2001 and have been enjoying life very much ever since. I haven't yet had a boring day. I have taken up golf, which replaced my skiing, gave up football & tennis when injuries became an issue and have done some fly fishing. Hope to get back to fishing soon. Now Pat and I spend our Winters in Hilton Head Island, SC where we've been vacationing since 1983. We really enjoy the Island and come back in the summer each year to enjoy the beach. Our family joins us from time to time which makes us very happy. We still live in Hurley, NY where we built our dream home in 1972 and raised our family. We are blessed to have numerous wonderful friends who make our life very rich and enjoyable. I've enjoyed serving on various community boards, including the Boy Scouts, local community Recreation center and more recently on the board of the local Chapter of the American Red Cross. We have three children, who are adults, Michael, Anthony who married his high school sweetheart, Colleen DiDonna and Allison. Tony and Colleen have two sons, Cody and Devan and Michael has an adopted son, Anthony. The boys live in Atlanta and Allison lives in Boston which is very convenient for Pat and I both for visiting and for enjoying our favorite baseball team the Boston Red Sox.".
