Michael Oster:  

After graduating from Lodi High I attended San Joaquin Delta College from 1980 to 1983 I received an AA degree in Administration of Justice and also completed my California POST reserve police officer training. I became a reserve police officer with the Rio Vista Police Department (1982-1985) working for free on weekends and special events. After graduating from Delta I went on and completed my basic police academy training at Modesto Jr. College (for you police officers it was only 480 hrs of training in 1983) I then started CSU Sacramento in 1983 completing my bachelor¿s degree in 1986 in Criminal Justice Administration. In 1985 while still attending CSUS I went to work full time for the Isleton Police Department as a police officer. In 1986 I started as a police officer for the Merced Police Department where I stayed until 1999. Along the way in Merced I got married 1987 to Sally Humes from Elk Grove. Sally became a third grade teacher for the McSwain School District in 1989. I became a K9 handler 1989 and had some opportunities to work some great assignments along with being a K9 handler, school resource officer, street crime unit team, drug recognition officer (dre) drug influence instructor (dar) weaponless defense instructor, K9 unit trainer, highway narcotics interdiction team. I also had three daughters Kirstyn (1992), Ashlyn (1995) and Mikaela (1998). I received some national awards for my work on the highway interdiction team for seizures made with my second K9 Haso. In 1999 I was selected to represent the US as a police officer in the United Nation Police Mission in Kosovo. Working for the private military contractor DynCorp. We arrived thirty days after the last bomb was dropped and assumed civilian law enforcement duties in Kosovo.
