Michael's Story
After high school, I joined the Navy ... was able to stay alive and get out early under a force reduction. Worked various jobs for a while, until deciding to head for college. Attended College of Marin and got an AS degree in electronics. It was there that one of my instructors encouraged me to move on in my education. I went to CSU Chico for a BS in Computer Science. While in Chico, I met my present wife. We had two daughters, one from her previous marriage and one of our own.

ly gave me a couple of years of employment before the job market changed, forcing me to make a career change. I became an appraiser for an insurance company and worked there for 19 years. They too had cutbacks and on the third round of layoffs, I walked away in 2002. Since then, I've been self-employed as an independent appraiser.
My wife and I hope to retire in 2 - 3 years. This will give me more time for hobbies (ham radio, electronics and model railroading), as well as time for us to travel.
