Michael's Story
I have been in Northern California for the last 30 odd years and have had little or no contact with anyone from Connersville. I did visit Connersville for a few days during the summer of 2007. I hardly recognized some parts of the city. The buildings are just gone. From what I could see, there's not much prosperity left there. It appears that the industries that were once thriving there are all gone. The old Philco-Ford plant was being closed down that fall and there seemed to be a lot of real estate for sale at rediculous prices. Of course, I'm used to a different real estate valuation here in California.
I'm married for the second time. My first marriage only lasted 11 years while my current marriage is going strong at almost 28 years.
I retired in June 2009 from the information technology industry. I was Director of Information Systems for a large consulting engineering firm in Sacramento. We designed HVAC systems for large commercial projects such as hospitals, prisons, high school and university campuses. Although I ran the firm's information sysytems, my expertise was in computer-aided-design, 3D modeling and setting up architectural building information s...Expand for more
ystems. When computer-aided-design (late '80s) was first getting on it's feet, I taught night classes at one of the local community colleges.
My wife and I owned and operated a retail flower shop in Lincoln, CA. for 21 years. We sold the shop in May 2006. Lincoln grew during those years from about 4500 people to over 30,000 people and we were fortunate enough to be able to grow with the town. It was a very rewarding experience. The shop became an integral part of the community. My wife, Georganna, retired after the sale of store.
I have one son from my first marriage. He is an architect but works as a computer artist for Sony On-Line Entertainment. He builds the architectural backgrounds for their computer games. He's still a bachelor.
I have two step-daughters from my current marriage and we have seven grand children, four girls and three boys. Two of the girls are already in college. They grow up fast.
I'm enjoying my retirement. I stay busy with some personal projects such as photography, geneology, plus my gardening and yard work. I play a little golf; the course backs up to my backyard and I have a gate that opens up to the fourth fairway. I love that!
