Michael's Story
Outline of My Life After High School:
Worked as messenger/wrapper for George J. Ball, 1964-65; then as TeleType dismantler and distribution clerk at Western Electric Co. 1965--66.
Rather than be drafted into the Army during a war I had no interest in, I enlisted in USAF 1966--70 (stationed at Amarillo ATC TX, 1966; Dover AFB DE, 1966-68; Nakhon Phanom RTAFB and Utapao RTAFB, Thailand, 1968-69; Loring AFB ME, 1969-70), specialty: supply and supply computer operator.
Attended College of DuPage in 1970; Southern Ill. Univ., Carbondale 1971--75 (Asian Studies/Geography); and Sophia University International College, Tokyo 1975--76 (Far East Area Studies).
Worked part-time as hamburger jerk for Tastee Freeze and as a bill collector for Sears, Roebuck while in USAF in Dover, DE (1967-68); as a janitor and map library assistant at Southern Illinois University (1971-72); and as a bus driver/tourguide and trans...Expand for more
port agent for Glacier Park Transport Co. during college summer breaks (1972-73).
Lived in Tokyo and worked as a proofreader and copy editor for an English-language daily newspaper (the Mainichi Daily News) from 1975--82.
Worked as a typesetter, computer operator, and in page makeup for Encyclopaedia Britannica in Chicago 1982--85.
Moved to Seattle in 1985. Now living in Kenmore, WA, north of Seattle. Worked at Microsoft Corp., from Aug. 1992 to Oct. 1999 as a Wasser contractor, then from Oct. 1999 to April 2007 as a full-time employee, formatting developer documentation, first as books, then as online Help for Windows XP. Retired from Microsoft on April 30, 2007. Back to work for Microsoft in mid-August 2007 as a Sakson & Taylor vendor. Joined Aquent/Sakson & Taylor as a regular employee on Oct. 6, 2008, working on jobs for Microsoft.
Never married, but living with the same guy for more than 36 years.
