Michael's Story

Life Well, I retired from the Air Force in February 2000 as a Master Sergeant after spending 21 years, 1 month, 3 days, 7 hours and 13 minutes with Uncle Sam. I currently work for the Department of Defense as an Intelligence Analyst which affords me many opportunities to do what I love to do...write. It's not exactly Shakespear (heck I can't even spell Shakespear), but writing nonetheless. I have three wonderful children, mostly grown now; Jennifer (23), Christopher (21), and Melissa (20). I live in Linthicum Heights, Maryland with my beautiful soulmate and wife, the former Cindy Marie Lorentzen. We bought a nice 3000 sq ft home in October 2005 and we love having the room to entertain ANYBODY who dares visit us. Along with my government career, I am helping Cindy get her wedding planning business off the ground. We are having a blast. I'm wearing my hair very short now. That's partly the result of my Air Force training and the fact I'm folically impaired. It helps me to let my brain air out for awhile. I love to hear from old friends (enemies too as long as we call a truce). You'll find that I'm pretty easy to get along with these days. Life is too short not to try and love the people you know and meet. School What can I say. I did the minimum to get by. I played sports and did drama. I'll never forget the great times I had with several of my old friends. Although I've lost touch with all but one, I'd love to change that now. Bottom line is, I graduated, and nobody has ever asked me what my grade point average was. College Most of my education is from the school ...Expand for more
of hard knocks. I currently have an AAS degree in cryptologic sciences, and am about 4 credit hours shy of a BA, which I don't feel compelled to complete. I do a lot of reading (books, newspapers, etc,) and have a fair grasp on many subjects. T.V. teaches me just about everything I need to know...I have digital cable. I finished High School at J. S. Morton East High School in 1978, entered the Air Force, and began the long road to getting my degree. Having the military pay for my college was a great concept, but they forgot to mention that you had to hold down a full time career as a warrior besides. Anyway, I concentrated in English and Writing while doing my Cryptologic Sciences study. I now use everything I learned and more and I love it...especially the writing part...I just haven' learned to spell yet. Workplace I work for the department of defense (NSA). I love doing what I do. I especially like keeping up with current events and doing the research and writing that my career requires. It's hard to believe they actually pay me for this. I recently received a step promotion after being there less than three years which was great! Military Raf Chicksands (pleasure) to Hawaii (even more pleasure) to Nebraska (ate lots of corn) to Germany (drank lots of beer) to Turkey (got shot at)to Maryland (I love it here) to Turkey (got shot at again) and back to Maryland (did I mention I like the blue crabs). I retired in February 2000 and am loving being out of the military. I am now free to tell people straight up what's on my mind without the threat of being courts martialed.
