Michael's Story
I am a volunteer Veteran Service Officer in San Diego CA. I have been working with American Combat Veterans of War since 2000. I have an office at the VA Medical Center La Jolla, and am a peer to peer mentor. I started this after being challenged by Rev. Bill Mahedy.
I turned 19 in Vietnam, with "E" company, 2nd battalion, 26 Marines. After my second purple heart, I was assigned to the Special Landing Force. My second tour overseas was with the State Department. I was assigned to the embassy in Ankara, Turkey. In 1972 I transferred to the reserves and started college.

I also got married to my first wife and have two children. Sean in Texas with my grandson, and Katie in Fredericksburg, Va.
We divorced in 1999.
I spent many years as a government contractor, and business owner in Washington.
My second wife and I married here in SD in 2007
I left the Marine Corps in 1974. I was in the Maryland Army National Guard for a couple of years where I was a platoon Sgt., and 11B.
All of my time in the service was with the infantry, except a month with amtracks...
