Michael's Story
Life
After Alameda High, I went to San Francisco State. I graduated in January of 1960, was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force and was married all in one week. I was on active duty for seven years as a navigator. I was an instructor for navigator/bombardier training at Mather AFB (Sacramento) for four years and served in Viet Nam (DaNang AB) in an air commando squadron supplying Army Special Forces. I got out in 1967.
I answered an ad for the Boeing Aircraft Company when they were recruiting in Sacramento. Two months later they hired me as a programmer analyst trainee and I moved to Seattle. In Seattle, I answered an ad from Sacramento County and was hired as a systems analyst/programmer and moved back to Sacramento. I stayed with the county for about four years and then went with a data processing consulting company...Expand for more
. For the next ten years I helped develop and install a financial management system for state and local government in about eighteen engagements all over the country, from Alaska and Hawaii to Georgia. I was an independent consultant for several years thereafter. I am now retired.
I have two kids (daughter and son) in their fifty's and two grandsons. Just to make life interesting, my second wife and I adopted a baby boy at birth. He is now 22 years old.
I drove around Alameda a few years ago. I don't like going there after Utah Construction finished filling in the bay. I was surprised though, at how many houses and buildings were still there - including my grandmother's house at 2410 Otis Drive (LAkehurst 31437). I came across some old 8mm film rolls showing the waves crashing against the sea wall next to my grandmother's house.
