Michael's Story
Before retiring, Michael’s last position was as the Assistant General Manager at Westfield North County, a super-regional shopping center located in Escondido, California. Prior to this he worked as the Director of Facilities Operations at the San Diego Symphony Orchestra. While working downtown in the Symphony, Michael was elected to the Centre City Advisory Committee (CCAC) and while on the Committee, served as the Chair of its Arts & Culture subcommittee for downtown San Diego, liaison to the Unified Port District of San Diego (for matters pertaining to the North and South Embarcadero), and was a member of the Pre-Design Subcommittee for commercial development in downtown San Diego.
Prior to the Symphony, Michael established and managed the David & Dorothea Garfield Theatre for the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center in La Jolla, California; was Development Operations Manager for the San Diego Opera; a volunteer with the San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture, the Muse Theatre, and The Writing Center. Michael has appeared in a number of television productions, motion pictures, an opera, and a play.
In addition to other volunteer work, he was the Chair of the El Cajon Arts & Culture Commission from 2001 to 2005. Other previous volunteer positions of note include Treasurer of the La Mesa – Spring Valley Education Foundation and President of the Greater San Diego chapter of the TeleCommunications Association.

in Psychology and Biblical Studies from Wheaton College (Illinois), wherein he had the opportunity to study psychology and art history while in Europe as part of Wheaton's International Study Program. Years later, he earned a master’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in financial management from National University.
After leaving EMHS before graduation, Michael became an Avionics Technician on the A-6 Intruder, medium attack aircraft, in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving in Vietnam in 1971 - 72 aboard the aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea.. He worked in the construction trades in North Carolina and Florida after leaving the Corps, then attended Wheaton College from 1978 - 82,
Upon graduation, Michael accepted a commission in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. As an Engineer Officer, he served in various leadership positions as Platoon Leader, Intelligence Officer, Executive Officer, and commanded a Headquarters Company as his last assignment. Preceding his work in the Arts, Michael worked for Cox Communications, San Diego for 10 years, where he began his career in direct sales and was subsequently promoted to Technical Supervisor the following year. His final position was Facilities Manager for the corporation’s properties in the greater San Diego area.
Michael was married for thirteen years and has three wonderful daughters from that union. He was single for about 20 years before meeting his current wife, Julie, and remarrying in 2013.
